New pre loved clothing conditions!

SERIOUSLY!   Am i the only one to feel even more babied by the geniuses at e bay??  Just read the c.ap about the conditions descriptions they are bringing in on Feb 4th.   Most of my stuff is either very good or even excellent but i usually only put good on everything after one item i sold (a jigsaw though) as excellent -  which it was) and the person put on her positive feedback that it was very good but she would not have called it excellent!  One or two items i have put fair or average but i usually do not sell much that is in that catergory.  I also put in detailed descriptions already.  Anyway just one more little annoyance to add to all the rest!

Nope, they are just doing what Depop, Vinted and lots of others sites are already doing in having sub-divisions for clothing condition.

eBay knows that buyers do not (sometimes cannot) read item descriptions properly so it's best to have the condition upfront. eBay themselves have been doing this in categories like Music for many years.

When it comes to clothes, ebay seem to consider the likes of Vinted and Depop as their main competitors. Hence the recent changes like listing fees, buyers pay fees and so on to match their customer experience. It may be actually working considering my sales on Vinted have gone down and my sales on eBay gone up.

Frankly I'm suprised it took them this long to do this. I'll take me an hour or two to bulk-edit all my clothes listings (700-1000 listings I think) and I'll have the drop on all the sellers who don't update quickly or at all so I get all the buyers who are filtering their searches by condition for "Excellent" rather than my As New items being lumped with items in a complete state.

Far from being "babied" I feel ebay are giving me more tools to list my items more accurately more quickly. I'll still do detailed descriptions where it's needed. I'm all for this change and am mystified why anyone would think it a bad thing other than the time required to fix listings, let alone be seemingly offended by it.

Got me running to the Announcement to read this update for clothing conditions.

As I understand you'll have to go through all your listings after 4th Feb as they seemingly will all be classed under the new description of ' Used Good',  so you may well need to revise any,  if they fall under the other 2 descriptive new titles.

Yep, another little change,  and ' improvement' ? ! .🤔

eBay are just playing safe, putting everything in "Excellent" by default would result in a huge wave of not-as-described returns for all the dopey and/or lazy sellers who aren't paying attention to site updates.

Yes it's a bit of a faff for me to update hundreds of listings but once it's done, it's done.

i buy clothes off e bay for my own use and i prefer reading a description than just what a seller says.  Easy to just tick a box which actually means nothing apart from the fact that those who do not put descriptions of their own do it because they cannot be bothered.   I have received items which have said they are excellent and are far from it, how will this new load of box ticking change that?

You do but many MANY don't. When the notification of your reply came up I was in the middle of typing a reply to a seller on these forums who is dealing with a return from a buyer who is complaining of defects, said defects were stated in the listing.

"Easy to just tick a box which actually means nothing apart from the fact that those who do not put descriptions of their own do it because they cannot be bothered.  " - Sellers already can't be bothered. At least now the condition of the item can be narrowed down a bit rather than just New or Used.

Anything is better that that god-awful AI description feature. I tried it for a few dozen items, it's absolute dreck.

Well, it wasn't sent to me either, but I have seen it on the right-hand side of the 'Seller Central' page.

I feel your pain. Not sure I could be bothered categorising if selling at 99p start. Wish they used a pre-owned category as so often people buy stuff then dont wear it, decide they dont like it after all or put on weight! pre-owned but unworn is really 'new'? used it isnt. Ah just read all listings will be changed to 'used-good' so sellers will only have to change the less than good ones....

I can't find them anywhere too but after reading article again, it states that they are starting to "Roll it Out" on the 4th Feb. I presume it will take a couple of days to reach every user....

That is interesting.. Vinted have just launched a new " re-invinted" something or another on their clothing section...not sure exactly what it is about or even if similar to eBay... it launched yesterday apparently.

I wonder why eBay chose Feb 4th for rolling things out? In the US, it is National Hemp Day...

Apart from new or used categories ,generally one writes  description of the condition, any flaws etc

if you just put used and don’t write more then the buyer is as much at fault

.?

Who knows

ebay seem to think they’re solving problems bless

It hasn't changed for everyone that's correct, it did state From the 4th,  but also states in that announcement:

Once the new conditions are available, please revise your listings as soon as possible, as accurate item conditions are crucial to minimising returns and ensuring your listings appear in the correct search category.

Once available.....  so it's being rolled out gradually it seems.
