Effective February 2025, ebay will hold private sellers funds for 14 days if the order is posted with an un-tracked delivery service (such as Royal Mail 2nd Class).
I think it's a brilliant idea if they want private sellers to leave the platform in their masses.

if a postage label was your only problem or concern, then sure, but why am I wondering if 'compulsory simple' will bring along its own set of new issues when it arrives?

@game_raid wrote:That is incorrect.
I sold an item on my private account and bought my shipping through eBay using RM and used the money that was on hold that the buyer had paid.
The shipping cost cannot be withdrawn to use your own choice of courier externally.
I really wish the correct information was posted, it's like they are purposely trying to put doubt into peoples minds.
No, its not incorrect, I just sold two items, funds available before £11.35, funds available after purchasing RM postage (2 x 3.39) was 4.57. The value of the sale plus the postage is sat in pending awaiting delivery.

Only time will tell, what i do know it is supposed to make things simpler, They named it such,
But it will solve the problem of sellers sooo skint they cant afford postage, The buyer (who has plenty of money) pays it you just get a label or QR code to get a label.

Ooh, it will allright....
Problems for those who have no smart-phone.
For those who have no printer.
For those who have disabilites and can't get out.
For those who can't use 'drop-boxes'.
For those who live nowhere near parcel drop-off shops.
For those with no transport to reach such.
For those who live where posties/evri will not collect parcels.......... problems basically for those who *don't* fit the 'cookie-cutter' private seller mould.
We can all s*d off.

the only problem i see with this is the buyer does not know how big or how much it weighs and will try it on, I.E a 15kg parcel and send a label for a 1kg parcel also i will not send it if its not down as a signed delivery and the correct compensation
have ebay thought this out well i think the answer in NO they havent

... and problems for those foolish people (like me) who bought lots of postage stamps to service posting stuff sold on Ebay and will no longer be able to use them.
... and the buyers of cheap items that shouldn't NEED tracked postage.

All that should be in the listing already ebay will use that to estimate the label cost.
See example:

If you have a balance it will take it from there first, no balance you can use the paid funds that is being held.
Why would I make this up, do you want screenshots?
Item sold for £69.99
- £1.68 PL
-£3.39 Label
All taken from the £69.99
The 35p is from the insertion fee from another listing, hence why you're seeing £69.64 as I was in debit.
I am left with £64.57 which is being held until delivery

That didt work well Ill try again
07-02-2025 12:46 PM
yes i fully understand that BUT it does say estimate,
so that means we have to pack them and measure every item to get the correct size and weight (sorry if that sounds sarcastic)

totally agree, you cant expect someone selling a CD/DVD (example) at say £2 then having to pay a fortune extra to track it

i would add a problem for those who just do not want to use SD and want to continue doing their own thing but then again it will not be a problem because i will not be on the site when it happens.

dont blame you ,

Not at all sarcastic is my middle name, no its actually carl but if the shoe fits,
Yes it is what i do, but if you know the weight of the box and the weight of the item and roughly how much packaging you can guess how much it will weigh, and i always slightly over estimate the weight as in this example the item postage weight is more like 66g
So i sell lots of similar items all roughly same kind of weight so can only speak from my own experiences.
The odd item that is bigger i take pictures then box item weigh it add 2g for the label, I know item is as I pictured and will get no further damage the put a sku on that box, so already know this info when adding to the size and weight. but not for everyone. But a perfect workaround.

You didn't state that in your original post .....

This occurred to me yesterday
However, tracking would prove delivery of tracked items
Are sellers who send untracked actually covered though?
Probably not
I would imagine if there is no tracking, then the seller will have to refund, otherwise, yes it is a massive scam opportunity
So even if eBay haven't thought this through, I would imagine that very soon, eBay will remove protection from sellers and make them refund buyers where they sent items untracked
Sellers who use tracked postage would still be covered by eBay and wouldn't be required to refund the buyers, as eBay covers that refund.

You state the weight and dimensions for the parcel
The buyer only gets the option to buy the correct postage for the size and weight you specified
So what you are suggesting cannot happen if you correctly add weight and dimensions when listing

'Are sellers who send untracked actually covered though? '
Nope, don't think so.
When using Simple Delivery, I believe *everything* will have to be sent tracked (but the buyer will be paying for it, so there shouldn't be too much sqealing from sellers...)
The only 'choices' a buyer will be presented with when buying from a Simple Delivery listing, *should* only be tracked options.
If not, SD just won't work, it'll be a scam magnet.
