AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

“Just a heads up for anyone who usually gets their eBay parcels collected by Royal Mail.
As you know we’re being forced to use Simple Delivery now with it being our only option. I’ve always previously booked delivery/collection through the Royal Mail website and got them to bring the label with them as I don’t have a printer.
I booked the delivery through eBay with Simple Delivery as you do, and along the way it actually said “Book courier collection for free - no printer required.” with the “book collection” button below it. It even says on their “What’s New” article regarding Simple Delivery “Once booked, the courier will automatically bring your prepaid label when they come to pick up your item, so no printer is required.”
Once I’d booked the collection through the eBay app, it told me to print my label and attach it. As I say, I don’t have a printer. I called eBay customer service twice, and both times they reassured me that Royal Mail would definitely bring the label with them.
The post man turns up the next day with no labels and he can’t take the parcels.
I ring eBay again and they tell me I need to ring Royal Mail because eBay apparently always automatically requests that Royal Mail bring the labels with them.
I ring Royal Mail and they say that eBay didn’t put a request for them to bring labels with them when they booked the postage and they cannot help. They told me I need to speak to eBay again.
It’s been non stop backwards and forwards and both eBay and Royal Mail have been no help/absolutely useless. I had to reach out to a friend who has a printer to get the labels printed off and stuck to the parcels and I’ve rebooked collection through the Royal Mail site. Fingers crossed they collect the items tomorrow with no issues.”

I was going to list an item until i deselected Evri but Ebay insisted on keeping that option as well as RM.
Businesses negotiate contracts with carriers. This could be for a set price per item regardless of weight etc. Say £3 per item. These contracts are negotiated on anticipated volume so yes i can also see that they may well need to hit internal targets.
A friend has a rather large clothing company ..mainly industrial workwear. He negotiated with Evri £2.00 per parcel irrelevant of size and weight........one catch. No compensation for lost parcels. That contract was terminated due to the amount of lost parcels.

its a 20min wait to speak to royal mail ,will see what happens today as rebooked pickup and nothing shows its booked ? ebay has wasted there hands from this ,obvious this is not working very poor response from CS

All is well with simple delivery so say CS ,but more mess , had no collection yesterday ? so rebooked they say its all down to royal mail ? and not a ebay problem ? so why on label s just another shambles

totally agree. It's too restrictive. To only have evri and RM is mad.
nothing for items less than 100g (large letter) . So i have to ask more money for items.
Nanny state arrived at EBAY.
was better 20 years ago.

I think I'll be shutting down very soon. Two lots of "simple delivery" gone wrong. Five calls to eBay, all over 20mins long to end up nowhere.
Yet if I was let alone to just book my collections on the RM app, all good.
And then for some reason, just cos I was honest and upfront with someone who had bought something from me, they went a bit aggro and snidey for some reason 🤷♂️
So I can do without the hassle for now.
Seems like they've done very little user testing for their "simple delivery" and there's no easy fix so far.
Apparently they've taken on this feedback from others who have complained.
So dont expect anything to change any time soon...

Ordered a couple of (expensive) CDs 11 days ago,no sign of them after 5 days so messaged the seller (100% feedback)..he said that 5 packages had gone awol last week & is certain that it's down to simple delivery...I wonder how much ebay are paying out in lost item compensation with this stupid system they've dumped upon us?.
This is the 3rd time in a few weeks that items i've ordered have gone awol and have had to get refunded..there's been more in a few weeks than in an average year..SD not working very well is it?

@jjambadger27 wrote:What?!? Just to check, eBay ended up using Evri instead of Royal Mail even though you'd deselected Evri? I'd be quite livid about that - what a debacle.
I'd be more than livid, I'd be cancelling the sale and telling the buyer why. Some would say I'd be cutting off my nose to spite my face, but I'm not going to be pushed around by a bully. I'd then relist on another site. Maybe buyers would find it there, maybe they wouldn't. [shrug]
I'm looking forward to the next Iannone report to the investors, spinning how the rollout of SD in the UK has been so successful and the plans to use it in other countries. And perhaps the next generation there'll be youtubers doing parodies where an ebay Marie Kondo-bot comes to your house, packages up everything that doesn't spark joy, and lists it for sale, all for low low selling fees of 110%.

Did they collect your parcel in the end or are you still waiting

As a private seller whom has not listed or sold anything in a month or two, this simple delivery being forced on UK private sellers is a final straw deal breaker for me. I prefer to book my own Royal mail postage and have tracking under my own control so I know the item will be delivered to the purchaser and not lost by ebay third party and will not fork out for a printer just to sell on here.To much worry and bother. So for me will not be seling or buying on here anymore.
The sales helped to purchase other items on ebay uk. So now due to this I will not be purchasing anymore items on ebay uk website anymore. Now I will be, (only if I want anything) will be purchasing on ebay USA or various European ebay websites ect, only from now on.

I have just attempted to list something in a category exempt from Simple Delivery, but can only select SD. I called eBay CS and was told that they're removing custom postage altogether and that I won't be able to list anything in those categories without paying for the label then waiting 28 days for a refund. I've heard CS can be a mixed bag, personally I've only had lovely experiences until now, but that seems mad even for eBay.

More customer service bull-manure! I suspect that they lost their script and just made up something on the spot.😀

What was the category

A lot of this is clearly poor promotion on eBay’s part.
because you can choose to select Royal Mail only and you can book collections where they bring a label (or use a QR code) so you don’t need a printer.
09-07-2025 6:57 PM
Yes, if you’re item is £11 it must go tracked because Royal Mail wouldn’t compensate you if it did
🤭
should have been over £20 imo and also heavier than 100g as weight doesn’t matter does it when claiming

That's the trouble though, RM do NOT bring the label. And there's no option to say to bring one.

You have to purchase / get prepaid label before you book collection
not the other way around
I’m just passing on what I’ve read
Don’t know if it works
09-07-2025 7:48 PM
It doesn't. 😊👍these are the instructions. No where along the journey can you pick a ring a Label.
