NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I got "the treatment" yesterday.

On Books, Records, Music Sheets, attempts to Revise existing listings or Sell Similar brought up -

"This listing has been updated to be posted with Simple Delivery. Your dispatch time is now 2 days."

(I've never offered 2 days dispatch!)

As I sold one of those existing listings yesterday with my existing Royal Mail shipping, will leave those already there on. If they are changed to SD on sale, I'll cancel the sales.

Attempts to Revise existing listings or Sell Similar on Postcards, Cigarette Cards were OK with no change to SD. ...

so

in future I will not be listing any more books, records or music sheets on ebay.

Their loss, someone else's gain"

Also be aware.... You cannot claim compensation on Vinyl Records if they are damaged (and possibly lost) if sent through Evri.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

We went to shrewsbury the week before last and a friend had a parcel to send  with simple delivery so they went to the post office there ,showed the woman behind the counter the QR and she scanned it ,when she printed the label out ,it said large letter which had been decided by Ebay, my friend said they had put the dimensions of the book onto the listing  ,but the woman tried to put the item through the large letter slot and she said it was just too tight and that if she put a label on it as large letter then the item would have to go into a seperate sack that she called the naughty sack and the buyer at the other end would have to pay the extra postage etc to receive it ,so my friend had to pay the £4.05 out of their own pocket to make sure the item got to buyer ,so my friend was not pleased at all ,ebay said all items would be accepted by the P.O with simple delivery and that if there were problems they would sort it out with royal mail .!!!!!!!

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

All my listings also changed yesterday.

The delivery time is now 2-3 days, how can that be possible if you live in a remote area - island as I do without a post office. We have a Royal Mail delivery office but is only open from 8.00 am to 10:00 am. No Evri drop off locations or parcel shops.  And if the ferry service is cancelled , happens often due to technical issues or weather related problems, delays or possible for days.  Circumstances beyond my control.

Asked eBay questions regarding this months ago:  they promised help but was in fact never sorted out.

I never had a late delivery: always offered a handling time of 5 days.  No longer possible.

eBay should realise we don't all live in London and should offer a more flexible handling time for remote locations.

Thanks. Another reason not to use them.
I moved all my records & CDs to Discogs when ebay brought in Item Specifics - what a load of old faff that was/is. The only ones I have on here are those that have no entry on d... or multi-LP lots. Oddly, while cassettes & 45s now shift to SD, CDs seem not to. (Shush!)
I have hundreds of stamps to use up, so won't be using anything other than Post Office counter Royal Mail till they're gone, which will be a while.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I have found that if I miss the last collection at the post office which is 4.45 pm then the item won't get picked up until the next morning by royal mail ,and even though I am able to add a tracking number etc the royal mail don't acknowledge this until that next dayso they count this as day of posting , so then ebay mark the item down as late posting  ,they say post by such and such a day( they don't say it must be by a certain time) which I do but can't always catch the last collection ,so to be marked as late posting  is totally wrong .

This is interesting, I've seen this reported several times on the forums now - the simple delivery labels that you print on ebay do not show a size or weight and just say 'marketplace seller', but the ones printed in a post office from the ebay QR code do seem to show at least the size format if not the weight as well.

I had the same today for new clothing listings, no way to opt out which i suppose is to be expected as clothing is unlikely to exceed the maximum size / weight. For each individual listing I can change the dispatch time to 3 days, but if I then do 'sell similar' the new listing defaults to 2 days, tedious having to change this every time.

If I use the bulk lister to edit these listings I still see my original domestic shipping rates in the 'Postage Details' column rather than the simple delivery bands as you might expect. And if I go to edit the dispatch times in bulk it lets me choose 4 days, 5 days, etc but in practise this seems to reset the listings to 2 days so that is clearly some kind of default that's set for simple delivery even if 3 days is the maximum.

Just to add nothing seems to have been automatically switched over for me yet. Auctions that auto relisted have stayed with custom delivery. I am able to bulk edit those items for duration, etc and they remain custom delivery. BUT if I go into edit any item individually it gets switched over with the message 'This listing has been updated to be posted with Simple Delivery. Your dispatch time is now 2 days.'

Obviously I'd rather not deal with Simple Delivery at all but at least this way I can see what ebay are doing with each listing and check. From what I've read it sounds like how they are dealing with this is varying between accounts.

One bad thing I noticed is that there's no opt-out for an item I have listed in the collectables category which is above the 61cm limit (with the size stated in the description). Previously there was an entry at the bottom of the size / weight bands to choose custom delivery for oversize parcels, now nothing.

I keep saying this.... eBay do not account for packaging..... !!!

Their AI looks at an item,(like a CD or a Book ect) and say what the dimensions are, but it doesn't take into consideration the packaging around the item....and some items are fragile, and can easily be damaged, and needs alot of bubble wrap around them and some cardboard, before they even get into a Padded Envelope or a Box.... Absolutely Ridiculous that they don't think about these things....!!!

And everywhere I look, YouTube or watching TV...... I keep seeing eBay adverts, telling people it's Free to Sell, like it's all one big happy family, and some kind of wonderful life enhancing experience.....!!!

Of course running adverts saying 'free to sell', while then forcing them to pay for specific services may be a breach that advertising standards would be interested in, I think you can report online.

I think it's to get around that point that seller fees have been re-named the BPF and why the buyer now pays ebay direct for their postage label unless the seller chooses to pay.  No seller fees there.

Sponsored listing fees are 'voluntary' as are other listing enhancements.  So again no mandatory fees.

So you can sell for free in theory, but probably won't sell much unless you you mitigate the BPF at your expense or 'volunteer' to promote your listing in the hope of a little visibility.

More smoke and mirrors.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Anything that effects the eventual price of the sale /auction is a selling fee and forms part of the overall transaction , so while the seller is not paying directly if really makes no difference and is just a cheap marketing scam om behalf of Ebay.

However the biggest scam,  if anyone from Ebay is reading ! is BPF as the buyer is not being informed correctly of their rights , and the fact when they buy a purchase a postage label via Ebay they are already covered.

BPF has no real value and sooner or latter that will picked up on and not just for Ebay .

Ebay and other market places are no longer facilitating the a sale they are acting as middle agent .

It really is a can of worms and a very good reason why no one should be selling under this set-up

And what about the fact eBay clarify quite clearly that part of the buyer protection fee is to cover for the costs of a secure payment system? Does purchasing a postage label cover that?

It really does not matter what Ebay say ! . If the buyer pays Ebay for a postage label then they have purchased postage cover as part of that transaction and should be making that very clear and they are not

The buyer protection fee is only for anything beyond that and there is very little  that Ebay are actually offering .

The fact that Ebay delay the sellers payment means they are really doing sod all themselves to protect the buyer , it really is an appalling shameful scam that Ebay and other market place really deserve to get caught out for and sooner or latter they will be  🙂

It's not just people in remote areas that need to be able to set their own handling times.  I've always had mine set at 5 days to make allowance in case I have a short stay in hospital.  I'm very sure I can't be the only person who has that in mind.

'However the biggest scam,  if anyone from Ebay is reading ! is BPF'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the biggest problem with the BPF is it's name. If ebay had simply been honest about it being a replacement for the old private seller's fees, most of the uproar about it wouldn't have happened.

the BPF is simply covering what selling fees used to cover (inc. the payment system, CS etc ) : that money has to come from somewhere after all.

The name Buyer Protection Fee is simply badly thought out business bullsh** and spin. (not to mention being wildly insulting to private sellers, who generally don't need to be 'behind bars' as a protective measure for buyers..)

Most buyers already have protection from their card provider so it reminds me of the misselling of packaged back accounts with insurance that the customers didn't need.

They should just call it platform fee and give a 'seller pays' option as they do with the postage.

And it should be applied at order level not repeat the fixed element on esch item within an order. Other places are less greedy.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I feel the need to address to people this 2 day dispatch thing causing a lot of anxiety.

you have longer than you think.

I’ve sold a lot since “all this started” (38) things as I’m having a pre-move sort out. Most posted by SD. All arrived except 1, when the buyer made a claim and I got to keep the money as I dispatched it using SD.

I’ve just sold a batch of 8 things that would have been large letter back in the day but I’ve sold them under SD RM which was £2.94. Put people off? No. Sold them all, twice to repeat buyers without combining postage. They didn’t mind.

anyway, post times. You have 2-days to PUSH THE BUTTON to order the SD label. Then you have 3 days to actually use label.

so I sold an item on Friday the 20th. I pushed the button on Friday and I’m posting today Monday the 23rd. One item I sold on Saturday 21st and I have until Tuesday 24th to send. (Which I’m posting Monday the 23rd obviously with other item). These will not be “late”.

the label says this.

so I believe you have longer than you think to post. I’ve “pushed the button” on occasion the next day and it’s all been fine.

im one of the few people here who have had no trouble with SD. Maybe I’m in a minority. I suggest people experiment- if it goes wrong and you get a black mark what difference does it make if you are going to leave anyway?

Ive been a member for 24 years… I’ve come from people paying in coins taped to card posted manually with a stamp to this… I don’t like change. I’m getting older now and change is hard but I roll with it.
