NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yeah understand your point but only mentioned it because the poster I was replying to was saying 2.70 is over the top which it is if someone is used to posting LLs 2nd class, but the new system is based around tracking and 2.70 is the same price as using RM or SD, ebay hasn't inflated the price.

But from a buyers perspective £2.70 is still over the top relative to the size and value of the item.

Tracking adds negligible value when you get delivery confirmation with online labels anyway.

The 2.70 LL rate plus the 75p buyer tax fixed element is going to make it uneconomic to sell small stuff here.

Vinteds delivery functions the same way as Simple Delivery and Facebook doesn’t even offer delivery. You can do it, but you’d be reliant on buyer being willing to pay up front.

not saying eBay is better, just pointing out the negatives of the other platforms are there.

The situation for buyer tax and delivery is better there in a number of areas  eg buyer tax is based on total order value so no doubling up of fixed element, managed delivery starts at 2.29 for lockers, they offer a wide range of carriers, there is no penalty for removing a carrier, the buyer gets to choose the name of the carrier, combined orders don't seem to bump to a higher rate, etc.

Vinted offers locker delivery, which is quite convenient for people.

On marketplace people can pay by paypal.

You can, but there is still a MASSIVE trust element required. The buyer has to trust that the seller will actually send the parcel. You could use PayPal Goods and Services I accept.

Agree - Vinteds is better - though it looks like ebay do now offer Click and Collect at a lower price - at least they are on my Simple Delivery listings.

Though again - doesn't look anywhere near as clear as Vinted.

You should always use goods and services if that's what is happening. If a seller asks you to do otherwise that's a clear red flag especially if they will be posting the item.

If you haven't already posted your items with the Royal Mail labels, you can have them refunded to you through the RM website.

That leaves you with the lottery of whether SD or either of its carriers are suitable for your items, and crossing your fingers that your buyers picked the right one (Royal Mail, I presume, if that's who you've been using.).

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Everything is AI these days, I'm assuming that's what simple delivery is, it's pants. Very very tempted to try out Vinted and do away with ebay that I've been on since 2003. I only used my local post office to send parcels, it's in the village, two minutes walk away, anything else I need to drive to and I refuse to use Evri and they are hopeless at delivering items. I keep selecting Royal Mail when making listings but every time I have to relist ebay changes the listings to simple delivery so I revert it back to custom again. Getting sick of changing from medium to small parcel, or changing the weight as its selected a heavier weight than it needs to be. Bring back simplicity rather than stupid computer generated methods that no one wants.

Not sure I'd agree with that, although the way the information you need to work within it is spread over so many different locations is reminiscent of many legal sources.

I'm still waiting for Marco to confirm it abides by the rules and will keep asking every couple of days till I get an answer one way or the other.

I have just had an e mail informing me that are putting coupons on some of my items but i will get the full value as they are paying for the difference (I have 4 items listed),   1 item has had a coupon put on.    Never had a coupon put on any of my items before, they really must be noticing a difference!

How strange. I've never seen coupons on specific private seller items before - other than sitewide offers.

While I guess it's welcome in that it might help your items sell it would be much better if ebay could just focus on being genuinely simple and good value rather than all the over-engineered world of broken complexity they like to create, maintain and confuse everyone with.

If Ebay are “Strapped For Cash” Instead of this ‘BUYER PROTECTION’ scam. A
simple solution would have been to add a 5% fee to both the seller and buyer
(As in most Auction Houses) You sell something for £10.00 the Buyer pays
Ebay £10.50 Ebay pay you £9.50.
What’s difficult about that???

Ebay will make a good case study for future business classes in what NOT to do if you are a well branded company in trouble.

Agreed - I think losing over 4 Billion Dollars in working capital from 2022 to 2024 is a trainwreck that was then caused by ebay itself and that we are paying for now.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I also recently reported something with the same outcome.  I bought a data cable in February for £2.99.  I needed to know what connector my phone used so I looked up the original purchase to remind myself.  That same day eBay sent me an email saying that I had looked at a £399.99 truck diagnostic kit and that it was safe to purchase it as the seller was a 'trusted seller'.  I checked it was a genuine eBay email and then clicked on the link.  In the top left hand corner it said YOU HAVE BOUGHT THIS ITEM.  Naturally I felt sick, thinking it was fraud, but when I checked my purchases there was nothing there.  To cut a long story (about being gaslit and lied to) short, I finally got through to someone who I could talk to (an Irish guy) and together we worked out that the seller had sold 90 data cables, and then changed ALL the details to the £399 truck diagnostic kit.  Therefore if you were to look at the number available it says 90 Sold, with 100% feedback.  So you would be more likely to buy, right?  Most people don't look at the feedback for each individual item if feedback is 100%.  Especially as eBay consider this Chinese seller who had only been with eBay for 6 months and sold mainly data cables to be a 'trusted seller'.  The CS guy told me to make a report, which I did, only to be told that AI says there is no violation.  I appealed and was told a 'real person' had looked at it and agreed with AI.  (Despite all the phone calls and screen shots and full explanation I sent, including advising that CS had asked me to make the report).

I rang them to make a 'formal complaint' only to find they don't have such a process, and I was told 'we are monitoring the seller.'  Do I believe them?  What do you think!?!?  But I am monitoring the seller, so let's see what happens.  They know there are all sorts of scams going on but they don't care because these Chinese sellers pay them a lot in fees, so much that they can afford to write off the odd transaction.  They really don't care about the customer experience which is the sign of a doomed business.

By design.  If ebay happen to see you leave, all they'd say is don't let the door hit you on the way out.

We're in a new world, a world where authenticated luxury handbags are where ebay sees its future.  The world of niche retro secondhand stuff and salvaged spare parts to repair your microwave, that's ebay-past, it's not the world ebay sees profit.  In a few years time we'll see the result.  The result may be onwards and upwards, or it may be another Poundland crash.
