AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I don't regret my decision to stop selling for the moment.
Especially when I saw this notice at the side of the page, which suggests that they are now trying to discourage people from selecting Royal Mail for SD, presumably because of some of the problems that have been occurring:
From 1 September sellers who opt-in to send items via Royal Mail only for the Simple Delivery programme will see the below price changes. These changes will apply to all new and existing listings.
For items sold between £0-100
Service | Old Price | New Price |
0-1kg Medium Parcel | £3.64 | £5.15 |
For items sold above £100
Service | Old Price | New Price |
0-1kg Medium Parcel | £3.94 | £6.16 |

If your item is in a category that allows you to use 2nd class labels then no you are not using SD.
The only RM product SD uses is Tracked 48 in Large Letter, Small Parcel and Medium Parcel size.
The problem is that the RM online service catalogue only offers Tracked 48 Large Letters at upto 1Kg weight and so that SD costs £2.70 which as you say is not reasonable on small low value items which would usually cost substantially less to post.
There is often no need for tracking as a 2nd class online label should still benefit from proof of postage, delivery confirmation and 20 GBP covered value.
That's why ebay have accepted that unless they want to kill whole categories with users going elsewhere they have to allow some exceptions to enforcing SD but categories are a blunt imperfect tool as you could still have an item suitable for 2nd class in another category and find the rules only let you use SD which is a PITA.
The problem is that SD is not attractive enough for people to choose to use it that ebay don't expect that enough sellers would choose to use it if they made it optional across the site so they have to force it where it's not often wanted or appropriate because of the crudeness of having different postage options in different categories.
Ebay have allowed the tail to wag the dog.

I use to buy several items (records) from the same seller a few years ago & they used to combine postage which worked out very well but can't do that now because same seller uses SD where it's not possible to combine post - well done ebay! (sarc)

It is now possible to combine SD postage by adding items into the basket before checkout however again the function is incredibly crude and tends to push the postage up a category eg from Small to Medium parcel often unnecessarily as ebay continue to put their own interests ahead of others.
Ebay really should be ashamed of how pathetic things have been around here recently.
They should stop making changes unless they are competent to do them properly.
Basic self-awareness - we learn it as kids.

The 'official' recommended correct way to buy multiple items from one seller is to ask them to combine them all in a custom listing just for you. Clearly it's additional work for them and a test of their trust too.
Ebay is conflicted as with SD they would genuinely prefer for each one to be sent separately. The more individual items get posted the easier it will be for them to hit their targets.

Medium parcels are being charged at over £5 currently. Unfortunately at present sellers cant check what postage ebay are applying on listings size and weight wise as info missing (CS looking into it). Never rains but it pours.

I thought of that but someone else might buy it first is said buyer is slow. To get around SD I have sold (or try to sell) small joblots of similar books / magazines as I don't really have time to list separately & postage costs very little more than sending 1 item

I’ve spent since they opened arguing about posting an item . They were all just not able to have authority to do anything. It becomes so difficult when you are trying to help them out and they don’t even care about you or anything you say. It’s a shame they *bleep*rf it up the day PayPal stopped making till noises

@crn303 wrote:NO ONE RECEIVED 40% DISCOUNT OFF ROYAL MAIL “A NUMBER IF YEARS AGO”.
A FALSE STATEMENT.
On what are you basing that?
In the Company that I used to work for I was responsible for negotiating carrier contracts (this would be between 2000 and 2012 which is a number of years ago) so I am able to speak from experience.
We had several contracts with Royal Mail and Parcelforce (a trading name of Royal Mail) plus other carriers.
In terms of Royal Mail, most of the big mailing jobs that we undertook utilised the old Royal Mail Mailsort/Walksort services (pre sorted mail) which provided a discount of around 35%. Occasionally we were able to use Royal Mail Presstream, if our client was registered for that service, which provided an even greater discount.
Parcels was where we were able to achieve the biggest discounts (and probably the best comparison with Simple Delivery). Our contract for the Parcelforce Express 48 service, which is where most of the volume was, provided a discount of 40-60% depending on the size of the parcel/consignment.

It's unlikely that anyone else would want to buy the exact same items that you do. It's more likely that if they're listed individually you'd end up missing out on one.
For the same reason trying to sell job lots may be harder. Someone will want 2 items but not the other 8. It probably suits Ebay if the same bulk lots are regularly being circulated every few weeks but it's not an efficient way of buying the things you want.

Well said. They are money grabbers. They charge more for delivery compared to Evri or RM. £2.70, not £2.25, for example. They give little with one hand and take a shovel full with the other. disgraceful.

If you're worry about someone else buying the item, try this. If you agree a price with your buyer of say £50.00 for your bundle, list it at £250.00, and allow offers. Let your buyer know that you will accept an offer of £50.00 from him, but not from anyone else.

He is 100% basing his comment on the fact that I posted the original comment. It's become personal. He simply contradicts anything I post, with no evidence whatever. Failing to realise that GPO had been disbanded in 1969, showed how much he actually knows about this subject.

Why have eBay changed half my listings to buyer pays, I have never had it set to that.
My prices have always been set to cover postage and sat here wondering why nothing is selling I noticed this stupidity on eBay’s part? I mean why eBay?
Is there a way to change them all back as I can’t seem to find an option for it on mass edit.

I absolutely agree.
Everytime I even think about maybe listing a few things this platform and it's best friend, the rubbish courier aka Evri easily manage to convince me not to start selling again.
Yet again I brought something here and Evri emailed me to say my package will be delivered today between 1-2pm. Just over 2 hours later they emailed me again to say they won't be delivering today and will update tracking the next day it's out for delivery. Evri will never be my choice of courier.
This platform and Evri deserve each other with all the regular changes.
Hell will definitely freeze over before I start selling again, and even buying on here is becoming a nightmare.

I am also done as of today, simple delivery is the final straw. Being forced to pay expensive tracked postage that isn’t necessary eats into the money I earn, not to mention this forced “buyer protection fee” that sellers now incur which is just a covert stealth final value value fee, the buyers always had protection with eBay anyway. The whole new system is a joke, I’ll leave a few larger items on that would need to be sent as a parcel but all the smaller items are going to cex or charity, eBay isn’t worth it anymore.
29-08-2025 8:24 AM
You’re being forced to pay extra for tracking which is not needed on an item under £20 - Royal Mail cover this with their own slightly less expensive postage fee.

I agree with you. I only come on here occasionally now, just to see if anything has improved - fat chance! I was disappointed with the other e site so decided to try V. Did not want to as it still takes the delivery out of my hands but at least i have made some sales. What annoys me is that two out of six so far are still waiting for the buyer to collect and one item seems to have gone missing (although it was only posted a few days ago!) Told i will get the money if it is lost Sept 30th.... The fourth has been delivered but at least i only have to wait the two days to get the money. The first one was the same, no response from the buyer so automatic payment. Only 1 has actually received and ack item the same day. I am not 100% with the site but until e bay have a change of mind (yes, i know that is unlikely) i will just stick with it. No site is going to be perfect but e bay just went too far down the profiteering path for me.

I've been forced to charge £2.70 to post games or software when they're no bigger than CD / DVDs. but buyers won't pay that they'll just go to the big river 'A'
