AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Yes, I saw it. I'm sure they're being as helpful as they can but it's very much a case of repeating the company line. The only way this changes is if the execs reconsider. The only way they reconsider is if enough people delist their items in protest.

as usual you are over exaggerating! KGB my rear end, if they were you would not even be on the forum!

my reason is simple! 1/. I actually like making my own decisions without all the fuss of having to think about measurements, weight etc. I know what my parcels are going to cost and if am mistaken i either refund or suck up the extra. 2/. I actually like going to the post office and handing my parcels over to the local post office and giving them direct payments and lastly and most importantly 3/ i hate being dictated to about something i am doing as a hobby/pastime for my family! I spent 50 years being told how to do things because i was employed and that is how it works. E Bay are not my employers. Irrational, stubborn etc but that is how i feel.

if they do not know about it then they are at fault. The information was sent out to post offices ages ago.
21-05-2025 10:15 PM
same people doing it though and that says more about them than you! Not that i always agree with your comments but i have never found them offensive or rude, unlike some!
21-05-2025 10:19 PM
never forgetting that e bay also stated that if it suits them they can override your preference!

i am still selling now until they make it mandatory. I delisted prior to what they said was the date and then relisted. I have sold 3 items so far that would otherwise still be sitting in my house. When it comes finally i will be gone but not until then.

My items went over to SD two weeks ago but i am still managing to get it done by custom. I have managed to sell 3 times this past week and none of them have been altered. I keep checking to make sure.

The only reason eBay would override your preference has to be surely if you chose evri as your courier only and they don’t deliver to certain areas so would give a rm label
why else would they override your preference

Ebay as platform should be flexible enough to cope for everyone and that covers both private and business sellers , with anyone feeling they are being cheated or turned over.
We all do things differently for our own reasons and trying to get the longest established online auction platform to conform to a very different new rigid set of criteria is never really going to work .
I am actually enjoying the break from selling 🙂

From what i have read its more like people choosing RM and then buyers being given the option of RM or Evri.

this is e bay we are talking about! Maybe they have promised EVRI x amount of use and with that little clause in the T & Cs, they could if they wanted just over ride peoples preferences to give EVRI the added custom. Not saying they would but it is possible. Probably other reasons but that is the most obvious to me.

I enjoyed my few weeks break but i must admit selling is more rewarding (until they finally make it mandatory with no work around and then i will be gone for good - or until they go back to deciding your own postage in a year or two!)

My sentiments exactly, am going down the same route. Already fingers in other pies and I will go if and when this SD is made compulsory. I don’t ‘work’ for eBay, I have no commitments to them!

UNLESS of course Ebay genuinely, sincerely and strategically do NOT want private sellers on the site any more?
We have been warned repeatedly about upgrading to business or leaving the site. And the recent 'developments' have made selling an awful lot harder. Plus buyers too seem to be punished (e.g. buyer tax, lack of combined postage) for having the audacity to purchase from a private seller.
And SD seems to have been 'fixed' (i.e. not remotely fixed) to hasten this. It's looking ominous. While 'custom' postage remains possible for some they seem determined to keep seller anxiety levels high.

Yes the basic logic is that if it might be more profitable and they think that people will only be moderately upset then they will probably get around to doing it eventually.

That is always a possibility of course, though I can't help thinking it's a bit unlikely. (perhaps I'm just an optimist!)
Thing is, the last time ebay tried a 'Business only' idea (called 'ebay express' many years ago) it died a death pretty quickly.
And ebay are apparently trying to compete with Vint*d who are full of private sellers.
My personal take is that ebay are confident that they can attract enough new (young and fashionable!) private sellers to make up for the loss of the 'old-guard' who won't stand for the carppy new rules. (though ebay *may* have misjudged just how many of us oldsters are feeling insulted, furious and 'kicked-to-the-kerb, and are storming out in a huff.....)
The potential 'new recruits' won't have any idea of how ebay used to work, so to them it'll be normal and they'll be 'happy' with it!

Then why are they running expensive adverts to attract private sellers?
The sad truth of this is that they want a combination of things that are in conflict with each other and when they cooked up these ideas last year they naively thought it would be possible but in practice it's killing the platform as they are putting too many buyers and sellers in a position where they clearly have better options elsewhere for many of their items.
This is becoming the platform of last resort if you cannot buy or sell something elsewhere.

Well, I only posted what I received back from RM! The email was written by a RM customer services employee. I shall do as requested in one of the earlier posts and reply to it and see what transpires. I'm guessing after reading the posts on 'marketing labels (ie no weight/size)' its just staff ignorance.

Ebay is your employer now because they want your NINO. Only employers ask for NINO. Its all about control and how they can hold payments as long as they want.
Enjoy the New Ebay - Welcome to your new job.
