According to Ebay you don't own anything you buy.
My daughters rollerblades have been reported as copyright infringement VeRO
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186882352112
Here is the entire conversation - it is quite humorous to say the least - especially the apple comments.
I have removed the ebay chat representative's name. - my text is in bold italic
No wonder sellers are leaving Ebay.
============
hello, I have received a message from ebay about 186882352112
it has been taken down due to "Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) policy"
I don't really understand why my daughters roller blades have been removed
other people have them for sale such as https: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131899459307
I want to check if I get your concern correct. Is it about the message you received about your listing 186882352112 and you want to know more about it?
please could you explain

but the support@ihappygoo.com is hair dryers - why have my roller blades been removed?
can you show me the document they have provided and what product it refers to
Ebay_representative
The documents is private information and this cannot be disclose.
so does that mean that if I buy an ipad then I cannot sell it?as this would infringe apple?
Ebay_representative
If you believe that the removal of your listing was an error or a mistake, you can send email to vero@ebay.com or send fax (801) 757-9521.
Ebay_representative
If you have approval or documents from the rights owner, you may sell the item to the site.
Ebay_representative
You're correct this would infringe apple, and if Apple report your listing this will be removed.
Ebay_representative
so If I buy anything I cannot now sell it second hand? I don't understand how I cannot sell a pair of roller skates on ebay?as a private seller?
so you are saying that if you purchase an item you cannot sell it on as second hand? yes?
your listing was removed due to the rights owner make a report on the listing. That is why we encourage you to communicate with them to resolve the issue.

Ebay_representative
my listing number is 186882352112
That is correct, that is the item number I can see with VeRO violation.
Ebay_representative
Have I answered your query for today, and do you have other question for me?
Ebay_representative
so have both of these numbers been reported by the same company? listing 186882352112 and 186884560149
a hair dryer and a pair of roller blades-that is quite a diverse product line
Let me check that for you.
Ebay_representative

Nothing humorous about that, just a waste of the eBay CS reps time, yours too.
They've explained that it's nothing to do with eBay, the IP rights owner has asked for the listings to be removed, so eBay must comply.
As advised by the eBay CS rep, the only way you can list these items is if you have permission of the rights owner.

At least they got more information out of them than I managed with my removed listing.
Bought some models here and then months later I found the same set of models, but painted. So I bought those too. Also from eBay.
Didn't need the first unpainted set anymore so tried to sell them.
Not allowed!
Umm, why?
Not allowed!

I'm sure they would be all to pleased to reply to my email and I would not be wasting my time.
Really helpful comment and not a waste of time at all.
So you are saying that I don't legally own the roller skates and cannot sell them on.

No, the roller skates are yours but the brand owner doesn't want them sold on eBay, so has asked for them to be removed.

I bought a hooded puma top it was genuine and I tried to resell it ,but 1 week later ebay removed it said the copyright owners had said it was not a genuine puma ,so I was a bit annoyed ,then 2 weeks later I had a message from ebay to say I could relist the top ,so I contacted them and the agent told me it had been a mistake and that my top was not counterfeit and that I was free to relist it . So my thought process is who reported it as not genuine ,I suspect another seller or buyer on here ,any way I relisted it but didn't put the name puma in the title etc but made the photos clear as to what it was and a few days later it sold . So my thought process now is that good photos will sell an item without all the words .

So eBay are saying we can’t sell anything that has a branding name on it as a second hand item?
That will restrict eBay’s business model then 😂😂😂
For s start anyone selling a car needs to cease 😆…..unless they built it themselves at home from unnamed parts.

'So eBay are saying we can’t sell anything that has a branding name on it as a second hand item?'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only if the brand objects!
Some brands see ebay as a flea market ad don't want their stuff on it ....
I remember, years ago, one particular singer stopped every record of his being sold on ebay by enthusiastic use of the VeRo program.
(I wonder if he's still at it? Has anybody tried to sell a copy of, for instance, ' Behind the Green Door 'recently?!)

That was amazingly well policed, as I recall. 😁

I applied for a trade account with the producer of an item I was keen to stock. They refused the application because, after investigation, they discovered that I sold on eBay.
I told them that I had no intention of selling the item on eBay, only on my website, and gave them the URL. Their enigmatic response was to refuse the account because, as I was familiar with eBay and had other products listed there, I may be tempted to list their products - and they absolutely could not allow their products to be listed on eBay.
That told me! I am a pariah because I list on eBay.

I hope you told them they were numb nuts
06-03-2025 7:24 PM
No - I didn't squabble about it. It's their product, and they can set the rules. Annoying, because there's no way I'd list it on eBay because it was far too costly for eBay buyers - also, they appear to be the only supplier of the product, I can't find an alternative, and I would have liked to add it to the range.
