It's Begun.... Buyer Protection and Postage

My first Item is now heading off into the void with no payment to me. ( A Dress )
An item from yesterday ( old digital camera ) is paid and on it's way.

I was not forced into simple delivery but both items we marked as 21kg in the listing.

I used my normal Parcel2Go Evri £2.69 not ebays inflated £2.94

Not only are buyers paying 4% +75p they are getting fleeced on delivery too.

I more so hate that the fees are not actually displayed to the buyer and the buyer will think the seller set the now higher prices on listings. I didn't increase them, eBay did. There is no transparency to the buyer about dispatch times now along with the fees. It should show the seller set price and the fees and then the total price beneath.

numbers are psychological £29.99 instead of £30.34 seeing £2x.xx is better than £3x.xx everyone knows this except eBay.

We need on the search index the prices to display seller set price then when and only when opening the item page to show both seller set and eBay added fees all on a single page.

Now I have to check all the listings make dumb choices on pure luck to make the total price rounded or psychological to appear lower.

Why not leave it for a bit and see how it impacts sales?

I certainly don't want to see a different price when I open a listing than that which I saw in the search.   I choose which listings to open based on the price in the search.

That would just cause more confusion especially as the buyer protection fee doesn't apply to items listed by business sellers.  Buyers need to be able to easily compare the price of an item sold by both private and business sellers.

So the buyer protection fee offers what exactly over and above what buyers were getting before which iirc was total, protection

That isn't working at the moment.  When you search by lowest price the results are not in proper order because the price displayed and charged includes ebay's fee but the search is using the seller's price to order them.  So my £20 item was showing at over £21  but was listed in the search as cheaper than a £20.50 item.  (Same postage).

Just because buyers got it for free before doesn't mean it always has to be free.

Off topic but I’m looking forward to how eBay is going to manage this because vinted who they are copying have screwed it up vis a vis Royal Mail versus couriers cos they work on different models

On vinted rm loses out because of a vinted design failure

hmmm

Having just sold my old turntable ( upgraded at christmas ) and some equipment was using for some expermintation ... Am am waiting for £471 😞  .  It means I have to prioratise shipping over other life issues to ensure i get paid quickly. Usualy I am next day dispatch, but these are items that need special packing.

Also need to consider timing auctions not to finish on a thrusday evening or friday as that puts you into the weekend when courries don't work and adds 2 days to your payout.

Sell Saturday, Pack Sunday, Evri Shop sunday..    ( Except people relax on saturdsay night and sales are lower )

Are they going to enforce imediat payment into the "Funds"

Umm

its part of ebays responsibility as a business to protect its customers

do British Gas charge extra for customer service

sounds like you’re apologising for them

they are the ones who screwed up with removing fees for private sellers

realised they were losin money

now have done a volte face big  time

or else they wanted to copy Vinted the competition but didn’t quite know how to do it

silly buggers

True but eBay have done a terrible job in explaining why buyers now have to pay for something which has been included for free for many years.

We’ve added benefits to give you more peace of mind when shopping:

24/7 customer support: You can connect with a real person by phone at any time of day, or start a chat to get quick answers.

Seller paid after delivery: When buying from private sellers, funds will only be sent once your item has been delivered.

So the only addition of any real value is a 24/7 support which I've read multiple times on here is actually an AI chat bot outside of the normal office hours (so...worthless).

And the omission is why they have to pay more for protection from private sellers

as if to say their fundamentally less trustworthy than business whatever

But it hasn't been included for free for years.

Until late last year, ebay took a fee from private sellers which was in part used to fund buyer protection.  This came out of the money the buyer paid for the item, so not free at all.

Since ebay removed the fees for private sellers (presumably necessary to enable them to make the alterations to the ebay software to implement the change from a seller fee to a buyer fee), ebay hasn't recieved any income from private sellers items to contribute to buyer protection, so it has only been effectively provided for free for a few months (and then only on items from private sellers because of course, business sellers are still being charged fees for selling ;))

Well yes, obviously it is costed in somewhere. Why would a buyer know or even care about where policy is costed from, from a buyers perspective they're now having to pay for something that historically has been included at no additional cost to them and that's a huge turn off.

The reasons given by eBay as to why protection is now charged to the buyer is becuase

A) Sellers now sell for free (a buyer couldn't care less, and if they think about they'll realise they're getting lumped with the tax traditionally charged to the seller, as it should be).

B) 24/7 customer support (for the <1% of buyers who'll need support courtesy of AI in the dead of night).

C) eBay withold seller funds (There is no associated cost for this aside from the initial roll out).

It's pathetic messaging.

Well, my two orders from the 8th arrived on the 12th and have paid out on the 14th.. But I was forced essentially into next day dispatch to ensure a payout this week.

It offers sellers the protection of not having to refund buyers if their items get lost or damaged in the post, that is how is benefits buyers

Oh, hang on a minute.....

If an item get's lost in the post it's covered by the postage insurance, I have not sent anything uninsured in years unless it's value is so low it's not worth it.

Ebay are inflating the prices of postage over and above going direct, so not only are they taking a buyer protection fee, but they are already covered by the courier insurance and then adding a dollop on top!

This is my main beef - I hate seeing all those random numbers both as a buyer and a seller - I've tried my best to delete the 75p + 4% from my items in advance to try and get them to come out as they used to but as I can't see my own prices I'm not sure how it's working out at the moment.

Well, it made me go over and try Vinted as a buyrer..

their website is nearly as bad as amazon...

but i still spent £100 on items on vinted not ebay.  if i did not have a superflouse need to purchase then i would not be buying at alll With winted I can at lesat see how little the buyer is  getting from my offer.
