Is everyone asked to select a postage policy? Author very confused by simple delivery.

How come I get asked to select a postage policy when simple delivery will take over from anything I specify?

What is a postage policy anyway?  I am an individual not a business.

I listed an item, eBay suggested shoebox up to 2kg.  But I still had to select a postage policy, so I took RM 2nd class from the dropdown list.  Now I can see on the listing that eBay are suggesting a postage price of £2.82.  Isn't that a bit low for a 2kg item?

Also when I use eBay's Help it waffles on about Packlink, but I thought that I am obliged to use simple delivery as I am an individual?  Is Packlink still a thing?

I am now resigned to the fact that I will need to use simple delivery, and I can't even get that to work.

Set up postage polices under Business policies on seller hub. I don't know why you haven't had to have one before, or why it's asking you now. I always use them to set up postage rates, so that when the price goes up you just change the price in the policy and it changes all your listings, but as you say SD has somewhat taken over. You also set dispatch times etc under Business policies.
