Is Signing In becoming too cumbersome?

Today, for some reason eBay decided my password was wrong although it was my saved password (last changed a couple of months ago) and what a rushed trip round the funfair that was, leaving me exhausted and dizzy. I GET A PASSKEY TO SAVE USING A PASSWORD AND THEN I NEED A PASSWORD?  When I was listing, my listing disappeared. It was nowhere to be found and I thought I must have deleted it accidentally. It wasn't in my items for sale nor in Drafts. So I started again. I trekked through it all and was ready to list and, just in the nick of time, noticed it was listed so I was able to avoid a double listing. Don't get me started on Labels, that's something else that is full of problems. I want to go back to writing labels and licking stamps, the Simple Life.

I think eBay's tech is in a mess. I don't know whether the issues I've outlined above are in any way  connected apart from being a total, time-wasting drag.

Yes, sometimes enough is enough! When I get this frustrated I use the ? icon to 'Report a Technical Problem' directly to eBay. I have seen slow but steady improvement on the site from this.

Re: Is Signing In becoming too cumbersome?

I'll try that next time I get the "rushed trip around the funfair".  I don't mind the security of logging-in with username and pass-word or even the "Lets make sure it's you" phone call and code, especially if I'm spending money.

What irks me is that whenever I have to sign-in I have to complete the whole 'round the funfair trip' again and have been doing it for ages.

Set up a Pass-Key  --  Maybe later.

Make This a Trusted Device  --  Remind me again later.

It should be obvious by now that I find my username + password + one time code enough.  If I wanted a pass-key or to get my device trusted, I would have done it by now.

How many times does it take for ebay to get the message?

Re: Is Signing In becoming too cumbersome?

Yes, I get a Pass Key and I make my device a Trusted Device but eBay forgets and off we go again. I blame the circus on Cloud computing. In cloud computing (as I understand it and perhaps I do not) data dances around the world to where there is spare capacity, momentarily, and it is anyone's guess where it is and who has access to the servers and where queries are coming from and who the users are. It's different from the days when a computer was connected by a copper wire to eBay's own computer.

Re: Is Signing In becoming too cumbersome?

So, if your scenario is correct, setting a pass key and/or getting my device 'trusted' makes no difference.  No quicker, no more secure and I'd still have to use a one time code to actually get into my account ?

A passkey (ideally biometric) is the most secure way to log into anything. However, it won't be any quicker where eBay is concerned.

Trusting a device does help reduce log-in requests; especially if you access online services whilst using mobile broadband. Trusting a device should also remove the requirement for 2FA one-time passcodes when using that device.

Now that eBay is a regulated payment service provider they are required to have "strong authentication" protocols in place for users similar to what you would experience if you were logging in to your bank's website or mobile app. Personally, I have found eBay to be no better or worse in that regard. I also prefer it to how things were before eBay were forced to have proper security measures in place as previously eBay's account security was woeful. For example; whenever contacting customer services they would ask security questions such as what the postcode of the business was despite that information being publicly visible on all listings and in the user profile page... (they've thankfully stopped doing that now). Account hijackings used to be commonplace but they're rarely heard about now 2FA and MFA measures are in place.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
