Inpost missing item

Ebay simple delivery T&Cs state...

You remain responsible for any loss or damage to your item until it has been scanned into the carrier’s network. Once your item has been scanned into the carrier’s network and providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies

What happens when scanning into the network goes wrong?

I had a buyer select Inpost rather than RM/Evri, so was the first time I'd used it.  Was very surprised that there's no label whatsoever, you just get a QR code emailed to you.

I took the parcel to an Inpost locker, scanned the QR code, the door popped open.  I put the parcel inside , closed the door and selected the confirm button on the screen.   Was expecting the tracking to update to "put in locker" or something like that.

This was 10 days ago and the tracking is still saying "waiting for the parcel to be put in locker".

I have checked with ebay and they say I am covered because ebay tracking changes to "despatched" as soon as they email me the QR code.

If this is the case, what's to stop someone getting the QR code and not actually then sending the item ??

Also - what will happen to my item in the end because there's no label on it with inpost, it's just a plain carboard package.

Inpost missing item

My guess is if the buyer raises a not received case, ebay will determine it never went in the locker and will take the refund from you.

If that happens you can discuss again with customer services, and they may or may not let you keep the money you received.

I always write whatever details I have e.g. tracking, QR, recipients name and part of address (if I have it) on any parcels in case the label comes off.

I would advise to avoid shipping using Inpost.
I have read post on facebook and they are terrible, messing up allot of orders.
Recently sold something to Poland and they have lost 3 collectible items with them and got someones clothing instead.

Inpost is UK only.  They don't  provide international shipping.

Inpost missing item

I have used InPost on another selling site without any issues. I did receive emails after putting items in the locker to confirm it was 'lockered up' and again when it was on the way to the buyer. I believe the courier attaches the label when they take it from the locker.

My wording may have been wrong as i am not from English speaking country 🙂

I meant that i sold to a person who used inpost in Poland and got 3 of his purchases wrong. I shipped using different method to that person, but they asked if i ship InPost or not as they did want to avoid InPost.

InPost’s operations span 9 European countries: Poland, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

Inpost missing item

The buyer finally chose the "item not arrived" option, which then passed it back to me but only gave me two options "update tracking"  or  "refund buyer".

As I sent it simple delivery and Inpost lost it, I wasn't going to be refunding out of my own money so I did an ebay live chat.

They have refunded the buyer from ebay rather than me having to do it, as goodwill as I have been a seller for 23 years and this is the first ever case I've had to deal with.

It does lead to a few questions though - this was only a £4 item, but what if it was something rare or one off or valuable.   ebay don't seem to care about finding the actual missing item itself, as long as buyer/seller aren't out of pocket.

And if using a locker to deposit something goes wrong, how can you get "proof of postage"?  Get someone to take a video of yourself actually putting it in?

If I had put some kind of sender details on the parcel, I wonder if it would have found it's way back to me one day?
