Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

A buyer paid £3 - but then I was charged £8 for Express Delivery postage costs. How can I turn off Express Delivery or increase the cost to cover this service?

I can't find it anywhere. Is this an issue with "Simple Delivery" ????

If it was Simple Delivery, you just use the label ebay sent you. The buyer has already paid for postage, so you don't need to.
As far as I know, there is no way to turn off the Express option (which usually seems to be RM Tracked24)

Re: Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

If this was the card you sold for £23.60, it wasn't Simple Delivery. You had chosen RM Special Delivery at £3 - which as you have found, wasn't enough to cover Spec Del.

As it wasn't Simple Delivery, you can just remove the Express option - though as a private seller you will be enrolled into Simple Delivery at some point.

'A buyer paid £3 - but then I was charged £8 for Express Delivery postage costs.'

If *you* were charged you must have S.D. set as 'seller pays postage' .

When you're selling low cost stuff, I would turn that to 'buyer pays postage'.  Then if they're in a real hurry for something, however cheap, they will pay for their choice of delivery speed!

(selling high cost stuff is a different ball-game altogether: then 'seller pays' is useful to get around S.D. and post via special del.)

Re: Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

You've still got Special Delivery on 205511892979; at £2.50 postage.

You should be able to revise it to Simple Delivery, 2nd class, tracked or whatever you like - and/or revise the postage cost.

I didn't check all your items.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I think I've worked out that you have to create a separate postage policy. I will do further testing to see if this works. Thanks again for your time in reading my query.

Re: Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

If bulk edit still works for you, I would have thought that was quicker - change the cheaper items to 87p second class (or whatever you wish) and the more expensive to Tracked 48 or Simple Delivery. It should take about two minutes. (Or use three or more different services.)

As I previously mentioned 205511892979 is still on Special Delivery. which would cost you another £8.

Re: Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

Thanks so much. Unfortunately, the Simple Delivery is overriding my postage
costs, and isn't allowing me to alter them which I am finding very
frustrating.

As you say, it's still showing the item is available for Special Delivery,
and it's giving me no option to change that or turn it off.

Your buik edit, however, is very useful so thank you for the link. I tried
changing all the listings by bulk but it shows the message: "The item is
sent with Simple Delivery and will override your domestic postage policy."

Re: Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

I'm not on mandatory Simple Delivery, so I can't try and replicate what you are seeing. For 205511892979, it seems strange that you can't even change that to Simple Delivery - which would save you around £5. You may want to consider ending it and then relisting - either with Simple Delivery or you own chosen postage/cost. Clearly if you've got e.g. watchers on it, or have already paid for listing upgrades/promotions etc. you will need to consider them. If in relisting, you were still forced to Special Delivery, you could try Selling similar on one of you other items and then changing all the details.

If the OP had selected "Seller pays postage" the listing would have displayed "Free delivery" because the buyer would not have been paying for the label.

The OP's listing shows "Royal Mail Special Delivery" meaning it could not have been a "Simple" Delivery label.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

My guess is you weren't enrolled into mandatory "Simple" Delivery when you created the affected listings but now are. The easiest fix might be to bulk edit the listings without changing anything. As long as the bulk edit completes without displaying any errors or warnings the listings should be automatically enrolled into "Simple" Delivery. You'll need to check the postage options on the listings to confirm the bulk edit worked.

If that doesn't work the only solution might be to end the affected listings, then go into your unsold listings and use the "Sell similar" option to relist them.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Re: Help - How do I increase postage cost or turn off express delivery???

If you can't change 205511892979, you could always ask the buyer - is it OK if I sent it Tracked 48?

ebay has the policy that the seller should use the postage option stated but one of their spokespeople on here, said they don't actually enforce it.
