Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

OK so listing some items tonight

good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates

bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?

This is from ebay itself:  You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

It can and will be finally conformation

Thank you for your post.  Simple Delivery will eventually become mandatory for private sellers but for now you should still have the option to choose your own postage.  There is a open ticket with tech for this issue so I will add your account to it while they are working on it.

In the meantime here are ways other users have worked around it

  • click collection only then click back to postage only and the custom options appear
  • switch to advanced options at the bottom of the postage section and click on the pop up

Thank you,

Kat

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

eBay has been trying to get rid of private sellers for years now as they, desperately, want to focus on business sellers, with their sky high charges.

However, I do wonder if this compulsory not-at-all Simple Delivery has come about via a behind the scenes deal with the courier companies to try and push more business their way.  Are eBay getting a cut?

Also, this seems to be in violation of every competition law out there.  In the UK, anti-competitive practices are identified as being under one of two categories:
Price fixing, bid rigging or any other ways of agreeing not to compete.
Abuse of a dominant market position.
UK and EU law prohibit agreements, arrangements and concerted business practices which appreciably prevent, restrict or distort competition, or where this is the intended result.

This seems to fly in the face of all of these.  Perhaps, someone needs to contact Martyn Lewis.

Yes they are getting a cut and unless we allow both RM and Evri on our listings they are going to charge the buyer more than the rate and keep the difference. I've closed the shop and taken my listings off. Of course it's wrong even Vinted which only allow tracked postage (2.70 ridiculous for a letter) have many carrier options

There really must be something unlawful here, clearly eBay will be making something or possibly quite a lot out of it. They like us to think that it’s all for our benefit, how good they are putting the sellers first etc. They are transparent and fortunately most of us see right through them.

EVERYTHING is annoying about eBay at the moment and has been for a while. Each time I have to chat to them though the first thing they say is ‘thank you for your loyalty’, yes well you have just lost that, this was THE straw and I am going g to check out Vinted to see what happens there. I am NOT accepting eBay rules anymore, I don’t ‘work’ for them, they don’t ‘employ’ me so they sure ain’t calling the shots!

Great but I am not even being given the option of custom postage now.  It won’t accept anything other than simple delivery which I do not want now or in the future and after 10 years I will leave.  FED UP to say the least.

So many of us fed up, I think eBay and evri have something going here, why would they expect us to want to use a courier who is so totally incompetent! I use Royal Mail and want to carry on using RM which while I am still a seller I will do and I will go via the RM website. I pack everything so carefully, as I would want to receive it myself. The fact is that evri whether they break an item or simply lose it, if it is in their prohibited list, which is endless, they DO NOT PAY COMPENSATION and eBay know this but won’t tell us that!

'.....which is endless, they DO NOT PAY COMPENSATION and eBay know this but won’t tell us that!'

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah but they do!

In their turgid pile of T's and C's they say ' Simple delivery will cover loss or damage to items sent (with Simple Del.) as long as the items comply with the S.D. rules and the carrier's terms.

So you have to know what is and isn't on the 'exclusion list' of RM and Evri (they are both hysterically long lists) before posting.

Unfortunately, with Simple Del. you can only use RM or Evri; you can't go 'off piste' and find another, better insured, service. So it's post uninsured  for anything breakable, or not at all.

I tried the recommendation from someone on here  to switch to collection only on your item then click back onto postage and then I was able to change it but it’s such a faff and as they’re going to make simple delivery compulsory  I’ve decided to not use eBay now and try Vinted .

Yes Absolutely. There is nothing simple about forcing us to send our items
by this ludicrous system. I am already extremely annoyed at having to wait
so long to be paid and each time you do postage they take everything out of
your cleared funds. Surely the postage should be taken when the item
clears not from funds that have cleared from previous items. Ebay really
does seem to have shot them selves in both feet this time.

I don’t use their stupid system, I do it my way in Royal Mail or Parcel Force websites. Much easier, I don’t deal with a middle man. Don’t even go there regarding the time you have to wait for your money now! I opted out from taking the money from my funds, it was becoming odd! You also only get your money when the item had been received or 14 days following date of order once it’s paid for. Well that’s what they tell you, an item I send recently was shown as received even though I had positive feedback for it, I was told that I had to wait 14 days regardless! In the end I had to argue with eBay for my money advising that the feedback was received days before and yet the money hadn’t materialised. Sick to death of wasting my time on them now. And yes you are right, there will  no sellers left, at least no private ones. I won’t buy on there either once I leave, yes I may be a small drop in a large ocean but many will follow that too I think, that will hopefully teach them a big lesson.

I have all my Items collected by The Postie by choosing that option through eBay, with simple delivery you can't do this, you would then have to go through the process via royal mail of individually requesting collection of the items.

Awful Upgrade, more of a downgrade!!

This on eBay Help page lol...........

Can I arrange for my item to be collected?

Collection is available with Simple Delivery through Royal Mail. If you'd like your sold item to be collected, make sure Royal Mail is selected as one of your preferred carriers. Once your item is sold and after you've generated a prepaid label on eBay, book your collection on the Royal Mail website.

That is anything but simple!!

No, you can request collection at the time of buying postage - but yes, still a rubbish way of doing it!

Umm - no more complicated that direct from RM if you want to combine collections. For example - an order at 8am in the morning to go the same day on an existing collection.  ie not the following day.
But, again, yes - still not Simple!

So after receiving the royal mail postage label from ebay that the buyer has paid ebay for, we can go to the royal mail website and arrange a collection?  Or is that 'help' section posted above b/s?
