OK so listing some items tonight
good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates
bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?
This is from ebay itself: You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

They seem to have their own strange take on postcodes. I live in a rural location where it's a 10 mile round trip to the nearest Post Office. Their is no courier service where I stay. There is a chap who takes his van on the ferry every other week to collect from the nearest A*azon lockers. (don't tell A*azon!).
Yet, eBay insist on listing Evri as an option. I turned it off in the postage preferences section but, every so often, it comes back. Useless.

The past couple of days when i have had to relist an item when you go into delivery details it shows the four boxes and postage only is highlighted but underneath SD is the only option. Click on collection then straight back to click on postage only and custom option shows up and it will relist as i want to. Not sure why the glitch on Postage only unless it is a deliberate glitch with them pushing SD but not sure that anyone is capable of that kind of thinking. Personally if i had not found the get around i would just have not relisted the item.

...Or a new commercial manager of some sort is trying to make his/her existence viable in the company and sod everyone, no matter how long you have been with ebay. Otherwise, I can't see why to try to change what's not broken.
Stopped selling fees - thank you, but what's the catch?
Introduced payments on schedule - ok, no biggie, they have to recuperate fee money somehow.
Introduced BPF - cringe, but I haven't changed prices so can offer 12-15% off asking price.
Delays with payment - even more cringeworthy, if I sell my expensive sofa, I have to wait 2 days to get the funds after collection?
SD is a royal pain in the tushie. Instead of quick clicks, I have to go through rigmarol of switching to custom. And I hope we still get the choice, not having it shoved accept it or the door is out there.

What happens when you choose Evri and your buyer is in a postcode that Evri charges a hefty surcharge for? On custom delivery, I just choose to send via Royal Mail and take the smaller hit. Simple delivery will surely create a label with insufficient funds? Or will the customer in certain postcodes be charged extra?
Also, I don’t weigh or measure boxes prior to listing. I may weigh the goods, but I can’t know how heavy it will be once I’ve added packaging. I make the final decision on the best way to send an item after it’s sold. If over 1kg, I’ll switch to RM.
Does simple delivery automatically add on the extra compensation fee Evri charges for goods over £25? I’d switch to RM48 in this instance, as insured up to £150.
I have Evri and Royal Mail as my only two options, but Yodel comes up every time. And don’t get me started on cabin luggage etc. Adding delivery now takes so much longer
is there a way to check I haven’t inadvertently missed one when listing items today?

that only gives you the option of opting out of either EVRI/RM, what so many of us would like is just an opt out of SD completely to save all the messing around.

put you item weight at 21KG , just remember to update it on your broker portal befor booking 😉

This 'simple listing' feature is an absolute disaster.
I have to opt out of it for every individual listing - eBay seem to default it back in for most listings, which I then have to override.
And if I forget and someone bids on an item, Simple delivery gets locked in and I can't override it.
I have overseas buyers who have been locked into a UK based postage because I think there's a glitch in the system for buyers with more than one country postal address.
And I have buyers who have bought more than one item, with some of the items in Simple delivery and some of the items on my usual (now called advanced/custom) delivery. So I then have to refund them the costs of Simple delivery, as there is a double postage payment required by eBay.
And the Simple Delivery cost is prohibitive, assuming 750g and £2.70 starting price. My usual postage cost is 85p (I sell small collectable/trading cards, which are very light).
Its a complete nonsense and I should be allowed to opt out of Simple delivery at the top level, as my default setting.
This comes on top of the rest of the issues recently introduced (buyer protection fee, delayed payments etc).
And the continuing farce of not allowing me to send an invoice with combined postage - this is a major problem. I do have a postage rule set up that works ok, so auto-combines my lots and combines postage correctly in the UK and overseas - but buyers are not used to this and would prefer to see a combined postage invoice being sent when they buy more than one item.
Lots of issues, making selling a real series of pitfalls and problems. Its good I am reasonably tech-savvy and can navigate all these issues - it must be very difficult if you're a beginner/new to eBay.

Welcome to my nightmare. I sell old postcards too, amongst other things. We are all losing customers over this as people won't buy cheap things if the postage is suddenly nearly tripled overnight. I have managed to opt out of this nonsense by using the custom settings, but it really is *bleep* as you have to do it for each individual listing. The listing template will not save this setting, nor will listing a similar item.
When will Ebay stop messing about with things that worked perfectly well? They gave me no forewarning of this being introduced, so I wondered what was going on when my latest listings sold.

Not only does it default to SD when you list, relist, sell similar eBay are changing YOUR options and wasting your time inputting/re inputting them
but it defaults to cabin luggage ie medium sized parcel every time
why????
then when you get to your custom postage it says recommended shoe box (small, parcel)
dumb
time wasting utter rubbish
where are the professionals?
a lowly clerk would have this c r a p sorted in an hour but a multi billion dollar company can’t get it together
astounding

SD is easily the most worrisome one for me

Vinted used to have custom postage
when they deleted it there was a big hoohah for all the normal reasons
people stayed and accepted it because
a) overall on balance it was a good easy platform
b) the remaining postage options were not too bad and they deal a lot with inpost which is dead cheap and handy for people in general plus inpost are very flexible service
having said that their postage system still needs an overhaul as they have ridiculous things in the system ie if you list something in plates , you get charged a minimum of 5kg even if your selling just one plate
similarly vases category, like a tiny vase doesn’t weight 5kg
but sellers work around it mainly by listing in did category which has options for lower weights

Yes, no doubt many people will stick with the site when SD is brought in mandatory but i will not be one of them. I will not have e bay dictating how i post. I am happy using the post office and RM and if i cannot do that then i will leave. I sell as a pastime for my family and if i cannot do it on here then so be it.
25-03-2025 8:43 AM
can't post anythong over 2kg on vinted.
25-03-2025 10:15 AM
If we must have SD then I just hope that they ensure we can combine items and the costs are reasonable to do so
25-03-2025 9:29 PM
Doing a blanket choice between Evri and RM is not what people need. I send many items RM, when the size, weight and value means it is cheaper than Evri. And I send via Evri when the size, weight and value mean it is cheaper on Evri.
Do I need to have two accounts, one to list things I want to send with Evri and one to send the others with RM?
And it can depend on the buyer's location which make this even less simple.

You can opt into both evri and Royal Mail on simple delivery ie by not opting out of either of them
but you can’t chose which one you will send with
the buyer will chose as eBay will give them the option
hope that makes sense
you will have no control on price just package size and weight
(but not always as ebays SD doesn’t cater for Royal Mail up to 5kg medium
parcel cost £6 or so —-if your item is over 2kg it bumps it up to 15kg so around £10 ) stupid
26-03-2025 6:49 AM
Why do I need to set it if all I want is opt out?
26-03-2025 7:04 AM
Vinted indeed has a simple delivery. If you sell average sized+ items.
In post lockers made helluva change.
But I am seriously considering opt out of evri as they pulled out of majority of PO and all lockers.
