Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

OK so listing some items tonight

good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates

bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?

This is from ebay itself:  You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

I’m very rural, in the Moray Firth/Inverness/ Nairn region. Everything takes longer from here, and Royal Mail are the only service that can’t slap huge surcharges or postcode bans on us.

Yep, been there but it is what others consider rural and remote. I had to send by ParcelForce on one occasion, a very small package, years ago when I was using Evri (never again), sent to Aberdeen or Dundee and the cost was horrendous. Not even a rural location!

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Hi zax93

Thank you.

I don't have a printer (of any kind) and I don't have a smartphone (I still use my trusty Nokia 3310 bought new in 2001!) so I thought I was doomed as not being able to sell on eBay after 15th April by 'Simple Postage' . However, if there's a way to circumvent it so I can sell items in the way I want to then that's great (as long as eBay don't put a spanner in the works and stop this 'Custom' option in the future).

All the best

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Simple Delivery is going to be the only option. Forget all the half baked
promises. This is the best money making option (For them not you ). You
will be able to go to postage preferences and click on what couriers you
wish to use (For now) However buyers know that some sellers will give the
option of Mickey Mouse and gang (AKA Yodel) which will be far cheaper so
for those of us using RM, we will be out priced. We can no longer do an
invoice, can’t combine postage, can’t post how and where we want to, can’t
get paid for our item unless it gets washed first by EBay and then to top
it off, on goes BPF Hanging over our once cheaply priced item like a huge
grey cloud. I feel more and more like a wooly sheep 🐑 with each passing
day BAAAAAA

Ebay help pages show charges for parcels between 2-5kg. Yet we are not given this option when listing. It's eiher 2 kg or up to 15kg, with quite the price jump. I've been looking at my existing listings and lots of shipping has been moved over to simple delivery. It's saying £2.70 for RM48 and lots of others are £3.71, not sure what method they are suggesting for this.  But so much for waiting until 7th April!

£3.71 is Yodel. Seems like Mickey Mouse is going to be busy.

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I put in a query and this is what they said.

Please find all the updated information regarding eBay Delivery in our rates section.
The limits specified when purchasing the label are solely for the services available on EVRi. This means that parcels weighing up to 15kg and with a maximum overall size of 245cm can be shipped using EVRi services.
During the label purchase on eBay, the sellers must select the correct weight for their parcel, this is a mandatory field the sender must complete. If the parcel weighs more than the declared weight, the courier will impose an extra charge for the weight discrepancy.

So are they saying, a buyer buys not knowing how much the shipping will be, we then go in and add the weight and then they purchase? Buy it nows are usually all one action. This doesnt seem right. But I can see a few weight discrepancies on the horizon.

Our main post office take in evri parcels but I bet they reject them ,If i sold someone a parcel and I got to the postoffice and discovered the cost of postage was more well then I consider that myfault and would take the hit ,so I am sure buyers/sellers  will be really  happy to know that they have got to pay more money for their parcel because ebay messed up.

There isn’t a way to circumnavigate it now, for me at least. Maybe the last people to be included will be on the 15th, which is why they’ve given that date?

If you can’t print a label or use a QR code (and get the parcel out in two days) you can’t sell. Its a shocking level of control when there are perfectly good inclusive methods that we’ve been using for years.

Between my models and dvd/Blu-ray/UHD collection I think I could easily do 15,000. I won't because I didn't buy them to sell. I bought them to keep.

I only sell when I decide I want/like something else more than what I already have.

It sounds alot, but it depends what you collect.

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I sold 3 items in the last 24 hours. The first one was under the new system. Ebay estimated the weight incorrectly. Silly me didn't package up the item before listing it, because everyone does that right!

Nowhere on the Ebay platform can a seller alter the postage to match the correct weight, or cancel the postage label and raise a new one.

The same thing happened on the second item. Customer Service basically just said 'Tough, you could try cancelling the sale'. I didn't, a threw the Ebay labels in the bin, wrote off the £12 Ebay stole from me, and went to the post Office and purchased correct labels. Crazy I know but it might just catch on as a new revolutionary way to send a parcel.

The 3rd item I figured out how to move to custom postage (for a few more days at least). So all seemed OK. Except I had the choice of entrusting a £300 item to Evri as if that would ever happen, or use Parcel Force. Which is how I always send items.

Of course being Ebay when I selected Royal Mail instead of Evri the ability to insure the item to it's value is not available.

I again ignored the Ebay label and purchased the correct label from the Post Office.

3 strikes and you are out Ebay. Bye.

Evri are not trustworthy for anything! Incompetent, useless, disrespectful, don't give a what's it if they damage items or lose them, can't stand them!

Cool name btw willcojohnson, am a big fan 😁

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Morning

I believe the opt out of Simple Delivery, Custom Postage section from the delivery options will no longer be there after the 15th April is this correct ?

I really don't want to pay £10.00 postage for an item over 2kg when RM charge £6.50 ish

@trotty_veck

If you are a private seller, that is correct.

But they have said they will be altering current listings to be SD compliant from the 7th April.

But it looks like they have already started doing that going by posts here.

Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Just been on chat to eBay customer service.

points to note.

discounted prices for delivery has not been implemented yet. Prices are actually showing higher than they should be ( Royal Mail for example showing as £3.71)  they hope to have it sorted by 15th.

Only possible to choose under 2kg or 2-15kg at the moment. Again, should be sorted by 15th

after 15th post office will take parcels that are slightly larger, or slightly heavier ( no distinction on how much over) on parcels up to 2kg- 15kg. Under 2 Kg has to be right. No mention of similar agreement with Evri.

if the label purchased on your behalf is not suitable ( parcel too heavy, wrong size) the only way to cancel it is to cancel the sale and the label will be refunded within 14 days.

there is a known glitch on the ‘my summary’ page, where some goods are showing as seller pays, when in fact it is buyer pays.

rollout of changes is ongoing in small stages.

theyve had lots of complaints from veteran sellers, but they think that once the glitches and prices have been sorted all will be well.

Time will tell…

Just had this 'photo' as evidence of an attempted delivery from EVI that never happened. This was an ebay purchase. This is what would happen if we were forced into using *bleep* service providersScreenshot 2025-04-03 at 13.55.10.jpg
