OK so listing some items tonight
good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates
bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?
This is from ebay itself: You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

No option to opt out, just closed all my listings, as they overwrote my shipping to SD. Time to say goodbye.

That is correct, there is no opt out of Simple Delivery now, and as you have found, any existing listings which comply to SD transactions, will be automatically switched to Simple Delivery postage. Worth checking,, some are not correct !
This thread.... How to Opt Out.... was started in March when there was still, the option to opt out, this sadly no more!
Must admit though, as it has been in force a few months now , there are posts here , from happy sellers, listing the positives of SD namely, eBay take full charge of refunding items when lost in the post, or received damaged in transit, sellers get to keep the payouts here, so perhaps, worth a try, see if it works for you before quitting totally?🤔

eBay did not refund you because the seller could prove with tracking that the item was delivered. If tracking hadn't showed delivery eBay would have fully refunded you, as my post above explains.
The fault here, lay with your courier not ringing your doorbell to say ' item is outside'. I have been victim of this too, and just in time rescued a large box of seafood left outside, ( birthday present from son!) no doorbell rung . Only my son ringing asking why I'm not saying anything , as he received confirmation item delivered at ** time, alerted me it was sitting outside.
Items get stolen all the time , we hear about this daily here, horrid when it happens no denying it, but for once SD or eBay cannot be to blame here.

22.50. It was too big to go through the letterbox, so they just stuck a
corner of it in the letter box. I never knew it had been delivered and as I
live on a busy city road, it was stolen overnight.
Neither Ebay or Evri would refund me as Evri claimed on their tracking that
it had been delivered and they weren't interested in my reply about it not
being delivered properly. Evri claimed that it had been left in a safe
place. I shall insist on future deliveries being made by Royal Mail and
will never have any dealing with Evri ever again.
If tracking shows as 'Delivered' then eBay will only assist if there is either clear evidence that the item wasn't delivered to a secure place (i.e. photo on tracking showing the item left on a doorstep) or if you have written confirmation from the carrier that the item was misdelivered.
If an appeal with eBay is unsuccessful then contacting your payment provider (PayPal or Card Issuer) will generslly give a better result as they will normally look at the evidence more closely.

How do you show that an item was NOT delivered ?

Not sure why you have sent this to me. I haven't complained about a refund/items not delivered. I only want to be able to select my own postage. In our area there are very few problems. I just don't need a nanny to sort my parcels and how I send them - managed very well for years and years. Thanks

How do you know they stuck just a corner of the package in your letterbox if you did not see it? Was there a delivery photo on the tracking that showed this? Did you report it to the police at the time and get a crime number for the alleged theft?

I'm not talking about an Item that 'was NOT delivered'
I mean an item that IS delivered but to an insecure place, such as a doorstep, and subsequently goes missing, as that is what is being discussed here. If the tracking shows a photo of the item on a doorstep in front of a closed door then eBay will sometimes accept that as proof of an insecure delivery and provide a courtesy refund to the buyer.

Oh OK, I see - but its a very vague situation is it not?

How is that decision made? Down to which ever CS gets the short straw and answers the case?
Doesn't sound like a scenario which could be written down to lead to legal action.
