Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

OK so listing some items tonight

good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates

bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?

This is from ebay itself:  You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

The feature is great if we have the option to select our own service if needed.

What I do disagree with is ebay skimming profit from postage costs. My postage costs are up by 114% now that SD is here versus the actual cost I can send using the same Royal Mail service.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

As a seller in the small volume small value category, I have been complaining about and suffering from SD since its inception.  What might have been the last straw came last week when, despite all my listings being in the "Stamps" category, under £10 and less than 100g, all my previously Custom Dispatch items were automatically converted to SD, and the option to change back disappeared, thus super-charging my postage costs on virtually all my items by more than 300%.

However two nights ago all my live listings were reverted back to CD without my intervention, and the option to revert others re-appeared!  So I am pleased to say that THIS problem has, for me and hopefully for others who operate at the same level, been resolved.

Obviously few of these items will ever get under the 100g weight restriction or the £10 limit, however, it does seem that Ebay have recognised that they have been over-zealous and may be on the road to some small element of redemption at least for small scale/small value privateers (although conspiracy theorists may pause to consider that ths could be a cynical move to split the private seller community🤔).

The next thing is to get rid of BPF  at least for small sellers to start with.  As I understand it, selecting Custom Delivery effectively moves the onus for refunding lost items from Ebay and back on to the Seller.  Therefore, there is no logical reason why Buyers should pay Ebay  for a "service" they are not providing.  Either that or Ebay should pass the cash received to the Seller!!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

But they haven't made things better at all. I can't combine postage and they expect me to send 5 items in 5 boxes with 5 tracking numbers to the same house, Instead of 1 box with 5 items in like before.

How on earth is that making things better?

Infact don't reply, I'm tired of this nonsense already.

Ebay are *bleep*, end of story.

Well I am replying!   I also said yes, there are issues initially and that in time they will fix it.

"Issues initially" is hilarious, this has been going on for about 6 months lol.

Yes, in time they will fix the literal headaches and months worth of stress they have caused many people.

Of course they will...

what the "bleep"

The Buyer Protection Fee is mainly intended to cover the costs of secure payment processing not as insurance against loss or damage in transit, hence why it also applies to items that are collected in person.   Buyers are, therefore, being provided with a service whether or not Simple Delivery is being used.  The Buyer Protection Fee is just badly marketed/advertised.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

As you say only a little change but Ebay still making more money from
keeping hold of you money for longer, but Vinted do that too. Ebay was
better as you could send how you wanted. Not everyone selling just has
small items, so sending heavier/ larger items has become problematic.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

the ability to send a parcel bigger than medium size has vanished in a lot of categories where it should be available

apparently it’s an issue at ebays end and it’s under review, wish they’d hurry up as it’s a very very basic function to not be working

In the meantime
List your item for over £750 (the limit for simple delivery listings) and it lets you into custom postage to do your larger than medium  / heavier than 20kg parcels

once you’ve chosen the size/weight  that should be you set to send with parcel force or whoever you want

dont forget to amend the price 😀

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Well they are a business and not a benefits agency - they provide a service and require to make a profit.  Even if you go to a car boot sale there is an entrance fee normally.  They have valid reasons for holding funds, not just because they are somehow making money with your £x's sales.

At the end of the day, it is not longer than a week before your funds are released, from the time the sale is made - so long as you post out promptly.  You just need to change the way you think about it and accept the new system.   I know it's a pain, and we would rather stick to the system before SD, but you will get accustomed to it.  Just think of the positives.  I never send items with tracking unless they are over a certain value - however, I do get buyers reporting INR.  I then cannot prove it, so have to compensate them.  At least, as a private seller, your buyer pays the postage.  I am a business seller too and the postage comes out of my profit as I offer 'free' postage.  And we all know there is no such thing as free!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

SD was started in the middle of April.  Not quite the 6 months.  Yeah, Ebay give us all headaches from time to time.  My worse problems are not so much Ebay, but buyers... or should I call them liars...

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I’m not finding this

If it  actually is a large parcel and you put that

why would it change it

it will change it to SD when you lower the price if you selected  a normal weight for that item in the custom postage

ie if you listed a pair of shoes at 751£ chose custom postage for 1kg , then lowered the price then it would change it

Using this method is not to cheat their system it’s to enable the basic function of sending a flipping bigger parcel

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

You have to set the item to overweight and oversize not just the price over £750. Follow my workaround exactly.

Maybe so, but before simple dog *bleep* came along we couldn't even send invoices for months, so yeah ebay is a joke and a constant headache.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I won’t get accustomed to it as I’m not going to use it, I’d rather throw my old items in the bin as I downsize - and I know I’m not the only one - system not fit for purpose for private sellers clearing out mostly small items that would often fit in a small envelope.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I'm selling an item which will be a small envelope and cost me 87p at the Post Office - The fixed cost for simple delivery is £2.72 and set as a large envelope.

How do I fix this 😕 ?
