Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

OK so listing some items tonight

good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates

bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?

This is from ebay itself:  You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

This is going to be a nightmare!

If eBay purchase the label from the Royal Mail or Evri, then the contract for delivery is between them and the carrier.

I always obtain proof of posting, even for letters, as I have a local Post Office.

When a customer complains of non-delivery, I seek compensation from the carrier, after the appropriate duration stated by the carrier and at that point refund the buyer.

With the contract being between eBay and the carrier, they will have to seek compensation for the postage and item, as the carrier will not deal with a third party. This is what I do and have never been unsuccessful. I hope eBay are as good at this!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I replied to this post a while back agreeing how annoying and time consuming it was.

I now wish we could carry on doing it as being forced into the UnSimple fiasco has been the last straw.

I am absolutely at the end of my tether with eBay. I have swallowed every 'improvement' they have thrown at us................. so far.

I don't want to have to quit altogether YET, but I will be taking down virtually all my listings before the 15th and will wait and see whether they either reverse course or smooth out the problems I'm reading about here i.e. the forcing of the wrong sized parcel on sellers. Apparently eBay have negotiated with Royal Mail to accept these but the Post Office has not and would be penalised for accepting say a Large Letter label on a Small Parcel.

I have never till now even looked at other selling platforms but will be checking them out while my listings are down. I'm looking for one that does not dictate to me how I sell and send my own items.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I can’t believe they’ve gone live with so many glitches. The advisor I spoke to said he’s had a lot of complaints and was passing it all on to the developers as feedback. He was apologetic for all the things that arent right, but seemed to think it was ok to charge the 15kg rate in the meantime, for a parcel weighing just over 2kg, as it will all right itself in the end. Similarly the higher prices for Royal Mail etc. that they ‘are working on correcting’. This is costing buyers, who pockets the difference? We can’t add a few pence to the price of a parcel to help towards packaging, but they can charge over the odds because they’ve rolled out a new system when it’s not ready.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

It has taken me twice as long to post three quarters of my planned posting tonight. I am not doing the other quarter, it is too exhausting. I am send out small photos and the like, often under 100 gm. Therefore I charge for the basic 2nd stamp in those instances. Now I have the pleasure of clicking six times extra just to call up Royal Mail as an option - EACH TIME I POST, EBay! This is stupid.

Further, my handling preference defaults on every posting to 2 days, when I have consistently had it at 4 days for personal reasons. As a 'Preference' I should be able to change it and it stay that way. No, it always defaults to 2, so that means more wasted time every posting.

I am looking elsewhere.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I will have 322 vintage adverts to relist, if this is the case and they convert them! Little chance of me doing it individually, so if I cannot edit in bulk, I'm out and I hope others in similar situations do likewise.

22 years of suffering stupid changes is too long!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Hang on *bleep*. Even though I am listing with advance options the buyer is still able to 'choose' their delivery and they are choosing a cheaper non signed for delivery that I didn't offer as an option.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Yes you can , but you have to list in a completely different category that is heavy ie. Kids bikes that gives you custom postage options which you set the price.

I sent a kids wheely Bug and discovered this option, just means stuff is in wrong category but make sure your Item  title is accurate.
