OK so listing some items tonight
good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates
bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?
This is from ebay itself: You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

I had a look at a seller selling same as me. Within a few seconds I got bombarded with the exact same item that I sells as was looking at how she styled items.

Hope not evri. The store up road takes that. Only trouble is they receive one bag only from evri. And so I walk up the road, only to be told “sorry bag is full try again later” one day I was up five times. Eventually took it to the post office who were more than happy to take them.
But I can’t be doing that all the time as I’m ill most days.

My partner had a message from ebay to make offers on some of his listings ,he hasn't got any listings on and hasn't had for 2 weeks now ,so ebay still can't get things right .

FROM CUSTOMER SERVICES Thank you for contacting us regarding the items you're listing via Sell Similar. I checked with our shipping specialists and I can confirm that our listing form is working as designed when it defaults to Simple Delivery, even after you've selected the Sell Similar option.
To bypass this default setting, sellers need to manually select their preferred delivery options when creating each listing. We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention. I wish you all the best with your buying and selling on eBay.

I've noticed that Simple Delivery replaces my offer of free postage with a price that the buyer will have to pay. Of course, I opt out for each listing, but does Simple Delivery not have the ability to offer your buyers free postage? (It's something I do for items over a certain price).

With Simple Delivery, as far as I know, the buyer will pay ebay for the postage label and ebay will send you the label to print or qr code to take to a shop, for royal mail or evri. So I guess no more free postage using Simple Delivery.

I have never seen Simple delivery as an option when listing. I was told it is because i have postage rules set up and use listing templates.

This 100% confirms that they are doing it on purpose to push out private sellers or to get you to switch to a business account. Theres no other reason to design it in such a way.
Just give us the ability to save postage settings. Done. They are self destructing, I cant see them being about in ten years time if they carry on.

My buyer bought an item that I didn’t notice I’d listed with simple delivery defaults 😩😤. It is a letter sized item that they have now paid for 48 hour tracked evri delivery small parcel. Luckily it is a buyer I deal with regularly and I can explain and refund the difference. My question is I want to send it without using the prepaid tracked label. Will eBay still pay me after 14 days as I can’t mark it as dispatched. Thanks Sam

You may be able to edit the tracking number yourself if not contact cs https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275 anask if they will do it for you.
If the tracking number cannot be changed you will get paid in 14 days but you wont get anything towards the postage

I don't seem to be able opt-out from simple delivery when listing clothes. it is the only option available now.

You click on custom postage if using the app
Or if in the website click advanced delivery options

Yes, Simple Delivery does now have the option to offer buyers free postage:
'If you'd like to offer free postage, go to the 'Who pays?' section and adjust the toggle to select Seller pays. When your buyer completes checkout, you'll be charged for a postage label for a standard delivery service and the cost will be deducted from your sales.
You can find the cost of the label by going to the Postage labels page in My eBay. If your buyer selects an express delivery service instead, they'll pay the full delivery cost and you won't be charged.'

Greedbay sent me a voucher two weeks ago, to be used by 31st Dec 2024!!
19-03-2025 11:21 AM
I stopped using free postage on all new listings as greedbay are charging 4% on the total for buyers protection & not on postage ( i think) afew pence but all adds up & people are still buying with tracked postage added to sale price,
i use royal mail click & drop bring my label collection ,so not wasting my time with simple delivery that i would have to go and order a pickup on a different site !
19-03-2025 11:59 AM
That will be interesting
ebay will pick what label they like and you have to use it
better make sure your sizes and weights are correct and not some random ones defaulted by ebay
ive experimented with creating listing and they seem to love to default to cabin luggage size

Ive had to cancel 4 orders this month just because I trusted simple delivery to be.... simple. 100 quid down because I got wrong postage labels and Royal Mail wouldnt accept.
People tell me "you should put in the dimensions, weight etc yourself". Thats fine, thats what I have always done.
But if thats what I have to do, then what is the benefit of simple delivery? If I have to enter everything manually then how is it any simpler than custom postage?
Its unfathomable how broken it all is. All they have done is added an extra few clicks and an extra minute onto every single listing we have to do. Might sound small, but say you have 100 things to list, thats almost 2 hours spent just changing the delivery about! So how is that simple??? Im so confused.
I cant find a clue anywhere as to what the actual benefit of simple delivery is.
Soon simple delivery is supposedly becoming mandatory. At that point ill have no choice but to stop selling here, because im not risking messed up postage labels and lost money every day.
Its even more infuriating because I am paying delivery myself out of my own funds. So theres 0 reason that once it comes to printing a label, I cant choose whichever service I want. If I charged 2.98 postage on a listing, but once the order completes its wrong, I should just be able to change the label. Or if I decide actually for safety I want to pay more for signed etc, I should just be able to pay for that and print.
But no. Its ebays policy you have to cancel the order entirely and start again. Ive been on phone with them for hours on end twice, and both times after they all took hours scratching their two brain cells together, they advised you just have to cancel order, nothing you can do.
Im tempted next time they give me the wrong label to just to send an empty letter so I have tracking data and then ill pocket the money to make up for it. Not like there is anyone at ebay competent enough to catch on.

Is SD going to be mandatory? If so, I'll be off too!
19-03-2025 12:39 PM
Yes in Q3. Was supposed to be implemented already but im assuming theyve held off because of how broken it is.
