Hi, I recently sent a gold ring set with opals, diamonds and a pearl to a US buyer via Ebay's global shipping. I have been informed that this transaction cannot be completed. This is what ebay wrote:
'The item in question has been classified as restricted. This could be due to import/delivery restrictions or eligibility requirements within the Global Shipping Programme. The item will not be sent on to it's final destination and will not be returned to you'
I am completely baffled by this as I have sent jewellery to the US plenty of items. Can anyone shed any light on this decision please as I am struggling to comprehend this.
Thank you in advance.

Pearls are a restricted item. Global shipping will refund the buyer and you will keep the original payment.

Thank you for replying, I did not know you couldn't ship pearls although I have sent through Royal Mail in the past and never had an issue. I think I may cancel Global Shipping as an option as they are expensive and have also lost items before.

Possibly some component can't be imported to the US or to the US state it's going to.
Your buyer will receive a refund, and you get to keep the buyers payment so nobody loses out here. The necklace will end up being sold as a lot somewhere where Pitney Bowes (who run the GSP) sell them. Sellers often spot their items back on eBay.

I've just had someone buy a gold ring through the global shipping program. The ring itself is 9 Ct Gold Rutilated Quartz & Diamond Ring.
I can't find a clear answer anywhere as to whether we can send gold rings with gems and diamonds in to the US from the UK. Just wondering if anyone here has the answer I'm looking for.
Thank you in advance.

As well as Prohibited items, the following items can't be sold through the Global Shipping Programme:
To learn more about restrictions on postage internationally, see our International trading policyInternational trading policy.
Also Valuables, including jewellery are restricted within the Simple Delivery service too.

I hate eBay's global shipping program too. I been buying a few items from American sellers. The items even nearly 3 weeks later are still in America. If the parcels were sent to me direct I would have received them by now. Before GPS a parcel from the east coast of the US would get to me within 3 to 5 working days. Now the damn flipping parcel has to travel to the international hub which adds at least an extra week to the waiting. But I suppose it keeps a few extra people in work over there.

Bank notes are restricted?

Apparently, under currency - bonds, c.cards etc as per the list.
Best to check GSP details and Simple Delivery details for eligible items.

Would that include coins?

If an item sold through the Global Shipping Programme is classified as ‘undeliverable’ after being accepted at the UK Shipping Centre, eBay will send you an email to let you know. We’ll also communicate with your buyer and, subject to any applicable terms between eBay and the buyer, will provide a refund to your buyer. You won’t be responsible for reimbursing eBay for this refund, and the item will be disposed of appropriately as an ‘undeliverable’ item.

'Would that include coins?'
If they were current legal tender, yes I think so.
If not, I'm not sure.....
