Gave buyer refund prematurely

I issued a refund immediately when buyer said that they never received their book.  Opened up a claim with the post office and found out scanned and delivered to a neighbour next door.

What can I do?

Actually, if you manage to sell a book here these days, at any price, you're doing pretty well unless it's some rare collectible.

The big sellers must have special postage contracts, because they can sell at prices less than my postage cost even if I sell my unwanted books without any 'profit'.  That's 'profit' as in a few pence more than throwing it in the bin.  The world is awash with used books.  At least they're biodegradable, unlike plastic.

And recently I found my nearest charity book bin skip is no more.  Why did they withdraw it?  I happened to meet a council worker there who told me the story.  It was regularly stuffed with other stuff, which they tolerated.  But when the charity had to clean out a load of dog mess they finally called it a day.

That is why I have no idea why he bought the book from me.  But it has now ended costing me the postage.  Down a book and down £3.75.  The book is advertised for sale elsewhere for the amount he initially was offering £4.  Did he target me because he knew I was inexperienced?

I have sent him two messages now.  One stating where and when it was delivered and the other one giving him the tracking number and saying not to get into an argument with his neighbour, but to leave it to me.

No response.
