Just sold a cast iron patio set, the first collection item for a long time. Hence only just discovered that there is no longer an option for cash on collection. I've had to cancel the sale as it seems too much hassle especially as I don't use their app. Also too much scope for dishonesty. Why stop a transaction safe for buyers and sellers? Now Ebay require proof of delivery before releasing funds, there seems no point in selling items with postage of less than a small parcel. If I post something that goes large letter, it's a perfect opportunity for the buyer to claim non receipt and Ebay can just refund them from the funds they are holding. Posting everything as tracked, will wipe out the sale of cheaper items. I've been with Ebay over 20 years selling my unwanted clothes etc. but no more.

you can get a certificate of posting for LL and you input the number from that into tracking and it gets marked as delivered.  Also costs nothing.

@joyer4

You may have just saved yourself a far bigger problem.

Under the Money Back Guarantee the person that hypothetically bought/collected your cast iron patio set could have taken it and then started a not as described claim with eBay.

Going on recent examples eBay side with the buyer and then say the seller has to pay for return postage.

If they don't the buyer gets the refund and the item(s).

It's the removal of cash on collection that allows that.

Free Collection should now come with a health warning for the seller.

I'm not sure there could be any proposed solution to this? What do you expect ebay to do? If there's zero evidence of delivery and the customer claims they haven't received it (even if they have) whats the solution? At least ebay believe you if there is evidence of a delivery. Because amazon don't!

If you don't send an item out tracked then there's always been the potential for a buyer to claim not received, nothing has changed there.

As @kath3735_wxmjn points out, if you take your items to your local Post Office, anything over 100g will get a free proof of posting slip featuring a delivery code.

From eBay's recent announcement: When you’re selling a single item for £25 or lessfunds will be available instantly if positive feedback is received from the buyer. This will apply on both tracked and untracked orders.

For orders shipped through Simple Delivery, you will no longer need to wait 14 days to access your funds if delivery confirmation is not received. If an item is dispatched within 3 calendar days, we’ve reduced the payout time so funds will now be available 8 calendar days from the order date or 2 calendar days after we receive delivery confirmation, whichever comes first

When you listed that set on the 9th March didn't you wonder why cash was no longer a payment option as part of the listing process?

There was a box for collection only which I clicked. I don't recall there ever being a box to click for cash. It's irrelevant anyway as not happy with the new changes so won't be using it any more.

That's never worked for me as the PO don't update tracking for large letters.

that is incorrect, i have sent 4 items out as Large Letter, inserted the certificate of posting number in the tracking details and all 4 have actually been marked as delivered, the last one was today.

Royal mail track my LL over 100g also, they give a number which is tracking, it doesn't follow every stage but it does on delivery.

The delivery confirmation is not the Post Office's responsibility; it is Royal Mail's as it is one of their posties who delivers the item. Provided you obtain an acceptance scan and a Certificate of Posting from the PO counter you can raise a claim with Royal Mail if the item isn't delivered after 10 working days (where 1st Class and 2nd Class services are concerned).

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
