Im absolutely furious! Ebay have changed their policy and are now refusing to pay monies (which belong to the buyer) until the item has been posted and received!!
I have been selling on Ebay for 19 years and this is how we are being treated?
I will NOT pack and post my valuable antiques until I have been paid! I have never heard anything so ridiculous! Can we not be trusted? Shame on you Ebay! You are the loser here! I have now cancelled all sales and 67 listings and I will find another platform to sell my antiques with someone that values me!!
Solved! Go to Solution.

It just proves there is little support for small new businesses smashi lol xx The thing is if I was making loads of money I would be paying all the fees, subscriptions and etc etc but I can't afford to do that with no money behind me. People can sit there and make judgement looking at my shops and the items, but honestly I was getting more sales prior when i was paying for the shop front etc but I am not making enough to cover it all. the items I am trying to sell is mainly my own brand, my own designs, but as I stated to get them made i am paying the companies most of the money to get them made to sell and offer; the main reason I do it is because I am ill, it gives me pleasure to design. I enjoy doing it. If my brand takes off.... Brilliant, if it doesn't I'm not losing all that money and getting myself in debt which; over the years and at age 21 I lost my own house due to redundancy...I don't want to be in that position again. This is a pleasure, if it becomes successful I would put all that money into making it better, bigger and pay every fee available....as it stands I am only making at the moment the money to cover the paying of my website....That is how broke I am lol and that is no lie. If I wasn't sick for three years, had a massive breakdown and now suffer from a rare neurological condition, I wouldn't even be trying I would have a good job and career again. This was something I wanted to try; so bully for people who Judge others when they know little about what they sell, how they sell, what money they make and how they have to live. I can barely afford to pay for shopping and bills. I know this is the world we live in but people should think before they accuse or hammer on their keyboard to bully people. 🙂

If you are a genuine private seller why on earth would you upgrade to become a business seller to then have to go by their rules? It is not worth it. You then have to do all your own taxes, accept returns, you have all the sellers fees added on. A business can then sell hundreds or thousands of things which would make it worth it and then also then buy to sell or make your own things to sell. If you are a private seller who doesn't wish to do any of that or doesn't sell hundreds & hundreds of items that aren't your own things from around your home - this makes it once again completely pointless in switching over. This insinuation that all private sellers are secretly business sellers in disguise needs to be stopped. Yes, there are some that do this, but we are all being tarred with the same brush. To be a business seller to make it worth it you need to sell a lot of things month in month out or sell high value items which you have got to sell on. ie, to be a proper business! Private sellers are not businesses however many things they have sold from their own possessions over the years. And business accounts with their own rules, charges & practises will not suit the genuine private seller.

To nobody in particular (and perhaps, by extension, everyone):
Just because you don’t earn ‘enough’ from your enterprise or side-hustle, it doesn’t mean that you are not running a business – you are. It just means that your business in unviable in its current form.

I accept returns just not from people outside the UK as my items are made in the UK so I have to set it up like that, the only fees I don't pay is for the pleasure of having an EBay shop front, this was £20 a month and with all the other fees and covering my website payments and paying for the odd item to be made is all coming from sick pay. I have no income and designing these Items is my pleasure. I only tried this to occupy me and give me some pleasure designing again and having a go; I wish it would take off, I would be so made up and happy if I had my own successful brand and website but starting a business is no easy task and if Ebay don't support people trying to start out; thinking they are rolling in it; well, I spend £50 every two weeks on food to cover a household, I have never been like this....takes me back to being a kid in the 80's when my mom brought Tesco No Frills food; I am doing the same. I pay for selling fees over a certain amount, to list over so many and for promotional fees etc. I also have to pay higher tax when I buy or have items made due to not being or having to be VAT registered yet; so there are downfalls with being private and a business seller including people not seeing your a shop or your items. It's a hard world.

By UK Law you have to earn so much to pay tax or be VAT registered you also have to be classed as a LTD company.

Hi Did you mean this to be me or the other seller as I don't sell antiques? I don't really sell a lot to be honest but I try....I was a graphic designer many years ago and do the odd FREE graphic design to help fellow friends and people out to start a business and set up, also for social media; knowing my skills can help others because I have a marketing qualification and graphic design qualification and was in a design studio for 25years. I actually Volunteer to help collect rubbish, litter and with our local Birmingham Litter pickers because of my illness. I love designing, I have designed my website myself because I can't afford anyone to help me; but you know there is no harm having big dreams; even if they don't come true. The thing I would love most is to be so successful I can just pay for things....My Logo needs updating I have altered it since uploading it....now I will look silly if you didn't mean me lol 🙂

You do have to be a LTD company to get VAT registered I am a sole trader i can get VAT registered tomorrow,
It becomes compulsory when your turn over exceeds £90,000 in a 12 month period.
To be classed as a LTD company you have to be registered as such with companies house they then allocate you an incorporation number.
To be honest i've never read so much hogwash. No offense.
You sir/madam should have a business account you sell much of your stock in a variety of sizes and colour's not typical of a private seller and your about me breaks all the rules of ebay , you cannot advertise your website on eBay.
And worse of all you admit your a business .

Thank you so much Tricia, I will still keep trying, I won't stop until I know it is time to give up. Also I have other ideas to try that might be worth a go. Designing is my passion; I also paint but most people want paintings for nothing.....lol never famous, us artists until we are dead! least I can laugh about it. I hope you find what you need to go forward and find the right people to sell your beautiful antiques to. Antiques deserve the right buyers and viewers. I wish you well.

Yes, yes and no.
If someone buys goods to sell then they need an ebay business account in order to trade legally according to Consumer (not tax) legislation.
As another poster has pointed out, if someone can't afford the legitimate costs of being a business on ebay, then they can't afford to sell on ebay.
Businesses can be sole proprietors, partnerships or limited companies.
