Extra verification for payouts

  Hello all,


I want to share on of the worst experience with ebay customer service and make you aware .
Last week I have just changed my payout account to an business card.

e-Bay wasn't able to verify the bank which is TIDE and an red flag pop up through my Seller Dashboard .
I had decided to call customer service(about 3 times in a week ) and I have told them the issue and they had told me to ignore the red flag and only to wait for the penny test to come into account and tol be deducted after.
One week had passed and still that penny wasn't deducted .
I had decided to call them once again today and someone told me ,,Ohhh you know,you should provide extra information ,like an bank statement''.

I am just wondering why I haven't been told from 1st call and cut this waiting time ,now I am ending with plenty outstanding orders and no payouts available as apparently it takes up to 5 days for that bank statement to be verified.

Did any of you had this issue before or I am the only one stupid guy on the platform?

It looks like ebay's long-standing chaotic verification process strikes again.

Quite possibly your bank statement will be rejected and you'll be asked to try something else instead and repeat and repeat.

This has been going on at least since verification for enrolling into MP started.

I think the traditional answer is to ring CS early in the morning and hope to get through to Ireland.  Sometimes they can sort it out for you over the phone.

On the red flag I had 2 options available: 1 to log in into the bank account and 2 to provide an bank statement (which they said that is the slowest one and that is take up to 5 days) .

First I had tried to log in into the bank from their end but again an red flag pop up that they couldn't verify with  the bank and payouts been suspended for 48  hours.

Now I had tried as they advised with an bank statement and let's see what result will get.
very frustrating as my business bank(TIDE)  is regulated by FCSA and they couldn't do the relevant checks.
In the same time I am frustrated as the account will have to suffer due to their systems,as I said I do have outstanding orders.
Such an bad experience 😞

Hello atoz,

I think part of your problem is that Tide is not a bank. It may well be regulated by FCSA,  but it's not a normal bank.

It is a thing that businesses can 'attach' to their normal bank accouts. (no, I'm not sure how this works! but if you google Tide, one of the first things that comes up is 'Tide is not a bank'...)

Ebay have several digital financial organisations that they don't deal with (I think Starling bank is one of them?)

Don't automatically believe anything that CS tell you on the phone; they talk a load of old cobblers sometimes.

Getting through to CS in Ireland may get you to somebody who knows more about the financial side of things (and they speak better english 😊)

Also, just read on the Tide site : they don't offer 'current accounts to businesses in the following industries' ;

and one of those is 'bidding fee auctions'.

Hmmmm, not sure it's compatible with ebay?

Initially I had planned to apply for an Monzo Business as is my day to day bank ,but I had registered my business to the House of Companies with Tide and they had offered me an Business account and I had decided to attach this one and go with them but apparently is very hard through verification process 😞

Tide is not a bank; they are an "electronic money issuer".

You need a bank with a banking licence that was issued in the UK. All licenced banks authorised to receive deposits are regulated by the Prudential Regulation Authority; you can find a list of them here.

@4_bathrooms totally agree with you ,but in the same time I had received that ,,penny micro deposit''.

As I had mentioned on the top ,I had provided to them an bank statement and will see what results will be

Starling shouldn't be a problem. Quite a few "electronic money issuers" now have UK banking licences. The PRA list shows Monzo, Revolut and Starling all have UK-issued banking licences now.

TIDE is also belong ClearBank Limited ,and ClearBank Limited appear to be under UK licenses list that you had shared it @4_bathrooms  🙂

On my payouts method is appearing as ClearBank Limited and not TIDE, and that giving me some hope 🙂

What does it say on your statement; i.e. does it say Tide or ClearBank?

The sort code will also tell you which institution the account is held with.

@4_bathrooms  many thanks for sharing this links ,as I was able to get an idea if e Bay will accept this bank account or not. From my point of view shouldn't be any barriers in accepting this card.

The institution you have an account with is ClearBank Limited who - as you correctly pointed out - are a bank so the account should be fine.

The statement might have the Tide logo on it but somewhere in small print - probably at the bottom of the statement - it should state who actually provides the account (i.e. ClearBank Limited).
