I been selling loads of items recently and looking at my withdrawable cash.....it's barely worth it. Looked at my summary and i'm handing over like 60% to ebay. I'm really busy with other work atm so feel now is the best time to see just exactly what happens if i drop all advertising. It's crazy. I mean way i see it, selling 1 item with just a final value fee I'd prob make the same as selling 3 with the ads on.
That's not even taking into account that 1 in every 20-25 buyers isnt happy

It seems to me that eBay are very keen to push their additional promoted listings and advertising fees and campaigns (in order to generate more revenue for eBay). But of course none of these extra fees make any guarantees about any extra sales. Certain sellers may find that using these promoted listings increase sales considerably so it's worth it, others not.
A promoted rate of just a few percent may increase sales nearly as much as having a higher promoted rate. It's going to vary on a number of factors so you have to do a trial for yourself. Maybe rather than switching the promotions off entirely you should do a trial for a few weeks or a month where you just use the minimum promotion rate.

Yeh I mean I was making profit still but I'm so busy with other businesses im working on that i dont need the 20 shipments a day when im making pennies. I turned them all off......nothing sold. Turned them back on but 10% instead of 20% and sale in seconds. I don't wanna be a conspiracy theorist, but it does feel like it literally is crippling anyone who isnt using the sponsored listings. I used to get more traffic running an auction with an item and promoted express. The traffic u got from that resulted in lots of sales. For now tho, I am still doing the trick of running an auction of every item in my stock for 10 days at 99p cuz it does bring the traffic that buys full price. Make a loss on the auctions but thats ok.

I was also handing over 40% + in fees to eBay for their promoted listings. I cancelled all the so-called extras & that just about put the kibosh on the store - I have a 75% off offer but I am lucky to sell 3 items a day ( from 4000+ listings)

Yeh I mean it was just causing me stress anyway and i was selling like 10 items and my balance didnt seem to change. Just switched to 10% across the board (I've put the auctions at 25% and btw I have no idea how the auction promos now work cuz u can edit it all the time). I mean sales now have disintegrated but at leats if i get 10 sales, ill feel the profit. One thing that did concern me with the promotions is i felt ebay just decided which one led to the sale. I had pay per click set up as well and id see 20 clicks....then ud get a sale and they took the 30% off cuz it was the standard promotion type that led to the sale. You kinda have to go "ok well i'll have to trust you on that"

Yeah its crazy, as a business seller ive sold items for a fiver and ended up with a couple of quid, why would I not just sell elsewhere for £2?. Ebay has priced itself out of the low end market completely.
