Ebay simple delivery opt out

So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.

Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method  as before.

Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....

I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:

"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."

The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.

I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

Yes eBay have killed it with simple delivery, once you get your parcel ready for dispatch you realise it’s now bigger than the set size you chose at the time of listing.  If you post anyway you risk paying a fee sometimes  around £60! Refund buyer, relist and put in next pigeon hole size simple delivery which may be a massive jump in price for the buyer. Complete loss of control and common sense, huge flaw.   I can see many private sellers voting with their feet! Not before letting down a lot of buyers first through no fault of there own. I wouldn’t want shares in eBay right now. Once this was the best, now a car crash!

Same here! I'm considering alternative platforms to sell privately whatever bits and bobs I have. Previously I have use yodel as my carrier, as it's drop of point is 1.5min walk from my home, it's open till very late, reliable and cheaper. Now I'm forced to drive to Evri or post office that are not that close and closing at 5pm ish. Nightmare, no respect for the ebay customers like me that are active since  2004!

It makes me think, eBay want less private sellers on their platform. They want business accounts to have the lions share with less competition

Interestingly enough I placed an order on Temu tonight and (I think) for the first time I could pick either Royal Mail or Evri. It has always been Evri from China till now. Areas of Temu checkout are under construction. It makes me think, now that RM has been hard-wired into eBay sales , they are gunning after tapping into Temu's business as well.

Simple delivery- my item is £60. Will the buyer be refunded the whole £60 if I didn't send through simple delivery ervi but sent through my own royal mail instead as long as I proof it has been delivered? I really hate how eBay forced us into simple delivery. Thank you

I have replied to your question about this  a few times, you will not receive a different answer ! 🤔

I have explained too,  if you use Simple Delivery you are not out of pocket for item not received,  eBay repay the buyer and you get to keep the payout.  If you don't have tracking  to show delivery, if you use your own postage or SD,  you repay the buyer the full £60.

Simple Delivery has many failings,  many things Still to correct,  but on a case of refunding for lost items,  on that score,  there's nothing to hate about Simple Delivery.

Is it just me, or paranoia, or has anyone else seen their sales completely tank since complaining on here? After a run of growth, week on week, I haven't had a single organic sale for about 10 days now, just one purchase from a repeat customer. I can't help wondering if the machine is manipulating me towards paying for promotion.

For balance, I have seen, over on the business sellers forum, lots of people seeing their business disappearing, for no obvious reason.

Hmm - I would have dismissed that as paranoia too but have seen something very similar. They couldn't possibly keep a black list that meant items only show up if exact search terms are used could they? 

Maybe just the changing economic climate or the knock on effect of listing less items because of dissatisfaction with ebay. I think the effect of buyer feed-through from new items is larger than expected.

Other than my knitted items, I only sell things I have collected in the past. I'm retired now and my children have no interest in what I have collected. So rather than them throw them out after I am gone, I sell them on here. That way at least they have the money, which I'm sure they will not throw out.

I never sell a lot, but recently mine has increased, selling over 20 items since this thread started. So I can see no difference for being on here. 

Only thing is as I have sold over 30 items now I had to give eBay my NI No so they could inform the tax office.

Never understood why I have to pay tax for selling items I bought with money I earned that was already taxed, but that is another moan to be added somewhere.

Good to hear. I'll put to sleep my Ebay paranoia - it's not a rabbit hole I want to go down. Depending on your tax status and income from selling on ebay you might not have to pay tax on your ebay income. I think the HMRC allows a  £1000 default exemption for costs against that sort of income. I'm not sure what the rules are with regard to claiming more tax exemption against selling income and what they would count as acceptable book keeping ie original receipts for items etc.

Not overly worried about the tax as I do not sell high priced items. Though my daughter in law gave me some things to sell for her and I do give her any money made so that would be fun explaining.

On another line was adding some items yesterday and noticed that Stupid Delivery now shows DHL as well as RM and Evri, for the larger parcels.

I still wish they would make it optional, at least until they sort out all of the issues.

That's reassuring, I too can do without thinking 'they're out to get me'. Maybe its just an end of school holidays thing, lots of people away with their kids/granchildren, that sort of thing. I've turned on a promotion just to see what happens. A little of a lot is often worth more than a lot of a little.

I too don't think you'll be taxed on these sales, but as per your follow-on, I think you already know that. Myself, I like to stay squeaky clean so I'll do self-assessment this year and see what it all looks like at the end of the day.

Anyone know whether we will have to go back through listings which are currently SD and return them to custom delivery?  Or is the volte-face only for classes of items which have not yet been compulsorily-SD'd anyway, ie they have called a halt to SD-ing for some categories but not actually reversed the process for any which have already been forced into SD?

I looked at a few of mine and could see no change and no option to change. So I assume it is still category based and I'm in the wrong categories.

Will try adding a few and see what options it gives.

I just found a magazine that had been changed to Stupid Delivery and it gave me the option to change it, which I did.

Looks like you will have to go through them all to make the changes.

It's annoying that they auto update and we have to manually update.

Same here, still no option to change. And still no new customers for my primary product, I just now pay 9% commission on repeat buyer sales. Fed up!
