So I have been a seller on and off her since June 2001, Over the years I have sent items recorded delivery that either never turn up , or arrive with no notification of delivery. Now someone wants to charge a buyer a fee for safe delivery, when they would have been charged that in the P&P cost. Frankly it sounds more like a scam than customer service and Ebay are also trying to force us to use their shipping option, So much for free enterprise, sound like trying to get the monopoly on delivery as well. As for hanging on the sellers cash til 2 days after delivery, really so post office goes on strike and you don't get paid, Think I may start looking to leave. So much for eBay's loyalty to us .

You have not said whether you are selling anything and/or what sort of items?

When you take in to consideration that business sellers have to pay for subscriptions/listing fees, final value fees, regulatory fees, postage fees and then 20% vat on top on this - business sellers do not have a financial advantage.

It varies but usually higher priced items. Doesn't really matter what I sell, what matter is Ebay being transparent about the fees and showing them separate from what the seller is listing at. If you buy a holiday there are options for insurance but it is an option not a given you must have it.

Good points, however, eBay said free and no fees for private sellers and then introduced BPF after a while. They seem totally unclear in what they are doing, and the inconsistency of when a buyer pays and when the seller pays the extra is all over the place. It's a mess of their own making.

..... I would rather pay the old sellers fee than the buyer have to pay it .....
Since you are a private seller, didn't I, as a buyer, ultimately pay those fees?

Absolutely it's of their own making. ebay made a big thing of the Money Back Guarantee and despite what they are told the charge is for (enhanced customer service etc) all buyers see is that they are being charged for something they already had or don't really need. There's no requirement for private sellers to pay anything although some may choose to drop their prices to make an allowance for BPF.

By calculating the costs in this way ebay just hands a massive advantage to Vinted.

They certainly have shown what is important to them based on the decisions they've made lately:
