So I have been a seller on and off her since June 2001, Over the years I have sent items recorded delivery that either never turn up , or arrive with no notification of delivery. Now someone wants to charge a buyer a fee for safe delivery, when they would have been charged that in the P&P cost. Frankly it sounds more like a scam than customer service and Ebay are also trying to force us to use their shipping option, So much for free enterprise, sound like trying to get the monopoly on delivery as well. As for hanging on the sellers cash til 2 days after delivery, really so post office goes on strike and you don't get paid, Think I may start looking to leave. So much for eBay's loyalty to us .

So you can't explain why more buyers will make claims?
04-02-2025 10:27 AM
great as long as you get feedback, that is such a variable.

I am not sending tracked and i am not dropping prices, either someone will buy or they will not, fed up of messing around. Car boot is starting in a short while.

The fee will be shown on the listing and at checkout as an extra. It's the Vinted model where an item listed for £1 will actually cost £1 + 75p + 0.04% making it nearly double. There's also postage on top as before. Buyers will most likely think twice before buying a low value item but maybe combined postage, multi buy discounts will help but I'm not sure. The info I got today from CS stated that existing listings are unaffected by these changes so if that's true, then buyers won't be stuck for this daft charge for some things at least.

Has anybody actually seen this fee added to their listing? I’ve looked at other private sellers and can’t see the fee in the checkout page.
04-02-2025 1:56 PM
It is starting in the " electronics " category first before rolling it out to others apparently.
04-02-2025 2:11 PM
Thanks for that, I must have missed that piece of information!
04-02-2025 2:12 PM
It is new information not long released...
04-02-2025 2:17 PM
"We’ve also heard your feedback and understand that shipping costs are particularly top of mind for low price items. When you’re selling a single item for £10 or less, and it’s sent untracked, funds will now be available 24 hours after you receive positive buyer feedback. This will be live by the end of February."
This is such a pathetic 'concession' for private sellers selling under £10 untracked, I estimate only 1 out of every 50 buyers (could be higher) leave feedback for a transaction so this is a totally worthless way of releasing funds early and Ebay know it.

'.....This is such a pathetic 'concession' for private sellers selling under £10 untracked,.....'
And a right old 'back-track'.
Up til now ebay have always maintained that 'feedback could be left by mistake therefore it is never proof of anything'.
I wonder if feedback being left, will now be seen as 'evidence' for other problems?

Ebay will probably make things worse, trying to repair the damage they've done, by phasing in three new income streams at once. Their greed is out of control.
04-02-2025 5:10 PM
I'm afraid you don't understand! If I'm selling something for £2 that is worth £2 and ebay sticks 4% plus 75p on it then the buyer will NOT pay £3 approx that it will now cost them so I will have to reduced MY SELLING price by the added 4% plus 75p!
04-02-2025 5:47 PM
so why have you over 700 items still listed if a waste of time?
04-02-2025 6:23 PM
05-02-2025 10:43 AM
See where you're coming from but most of my items are BIN £1.50 including postage so, when eBay rolls out this across all categories, I have no prospect of selling anything as, even if I make shipping extra, the minimum BIN amount is 99p.

Re: Proof of delivery = Payment.
I have a 2nd class posted item, which I received positive Feedback for on the Fri 31st Jan and the item is still just marked as 'Dispatched' on Wed 5th Feb in my Orders listing.
What chance do I have? Oh Lord, give me strength!!
05-02-2025 11:34 AM
What service did you use to send it? If it was a stamp or an item with no tracking it will probably not change, ever.
As far as I know, receiving positive feedback will not mean that the item is then marked as delivered. Ebay have not said that. They have said that you will receive payment 24 hours after you get positive feedback.
Only confirmation of delivery on the courier's website will trigger the change from diapstched to delivered. A buyer who has left positive feedback can still open an item not received case.

An official 2nd class postage label via E-bay.
So you've confirmed what I'm saying. There is some kind of disconnect in the case I've highlighted. It's obviously been delivered, but the system is letting us down by not marking it as such, thus delaying my much needed payment.
05-02-2025 11:46 AM
Have you been paid though?
That sale was before the new system came in.
I sold a brooch on 2nd February, sent the money from Ebay to my bank account on 3rd Feb and posted the brooch on 4th.
Under the new system, even if the item still shows as despatched, you would be paid 24 hours after receiving positive feedback. (Although this isn't being introduced until the end of February and only for low value items.)
05-02-2025 11:54 AM
I have been paid.
I am highlighting this disconnect as an issue going forward under the new regime.
I find this whole 'proof of delivery' and the even worse 'positive feedback' to instigate payment of your hard earned cash really galling and something that will always jar with me, so long as Ebay insist on using it. It's such a fragile system and will have Sellers constantly checking their Ebay and bank 'statements' trying to figure out which orders they have received payment for (made worse when Ebay lump payments together!). Horrible times!
