Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I'm a private seller. Items I sell are between £2.90 - £10. Is It just me or will ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb make it near impossible to sell competitively. A few months ago Ebay got rid of Sellers' fees for private sellers, which was a welcome move. But this new change and getting rid of multi-buy discount for private sellers will make it worse than it was with the original fees.

So why did ebay CS confirm it?  She had to go away 4 times to 'check' the information

The time on the 'Announcement' is currently showing as posted at 12.54pm on the 3rd not 07.54 am so its clearly been amended or more likely replaced.

Anyway today is the 4th - noticed any changes yet?

@gblcfc  again go back and read the part I tagged on at the end - I'm in the US and have my forum settings set for my local time here in Florida, which is 5 hours earlier than y'all in the UK....that would make my screenshot showing the time it was posted as 07:54 AM US Eastern Time which would be 12:54 PM UK time.

I realized as soon as I posted that it could be confusing, which is why I edited to add that and...you can see the note added by this forum on that post indicating I edited it, which also proves the point that since that announcement doesn't have a notation about being edited, that means it wasn't edited and always said the 4th.

And just to further reinforce the point - here's a screenshot I just took of this response where you can compare what it shows on my screen (US Eastern time) to your current time in the UK and also now see that this post has been edited.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I missed his last line but so what? - I'm not sure what some bloke in Florida can add (or why is even involved in the discussion)

Equally, as you are a Business Seller, what does it really have to do with you? Nothing has changed - although I would suggest that more additional charges will be coming your way next

The fact remains that no listings have changed despite what ebay 'announced'

@vinylscot  for the record, not a he but I won't take offense 😂

@gblcfc  As for what I can add....if you look at some of my previous posting history here, I'd like to think it shows a record of being helpful and adding value to the conversations in this community.

Beyond that I wasn't aware there was any geographical limitations on being interested or participating in discussions here and as such I don't particularly feel any need to defend my participation.

Yes, others here are discussing the fact that they have not noticed Buyer Fees being added to items from private sellers in Electronics categories as expected today.

You then responded saying it wasn't supposed to happen until the 6th, stating that information as if it was a fact - which it apparently is not.

I chimed in to provide accurate and relevant information to the discussion at hand to show the fact that the announcement was not edited and always said the 4th.

You are of course free to do with that information what you will.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

As you say, this is coming my way too, sooner or later, so I'm keen to see how it pans out.

What we don't need is people posting demonstrably false information, and just doubling down, instead of being decent enough to admit they were mistaken (or at least mislead).

Have any Private Seller Listings changed?

Believing that ebay do not have the means to amend their own 'Announcement' on their own platform is epic delusion. Let's see when the listings actually change eh?

I am listing some magic beans soon if you are interested?

hmmm was waiting all day to see how this fee looks at "private" sellers listing. But apparently it wasn't implemented yet? Thought eBay's announcement says 4th of February?

Dunno if this has been posted already in this long, long thread (one of several on the topic of Simple Delivery): https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Announcements/Simple-Delivery-pricing-changes-from-10-February/ba-p/....  Starts with "Large Letter" - what about postcard, stamps and the like that can be sent by "Letter"?

I too saw something supposed to be happening on the 10th Feb, maybe its this, not 100% sure though what it means, whether roll-out of SD or just price changes:

One thing I would suggest when posting on the discussion boards is don't start your post with the words "I am a Private Seller".

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

The announcement mentioning February 10th is only about Simple Delivery pricing - it does not have anything to do with Buyer Fees.

It is also only about the pricing for Simple Delivery and should not be assumed to also mean that Simple Delivery will become mandatory for Private Sellers on that date.

eBay CEO Jamie Iannone has said that Simple Delivery will become mandatory for private sales of eligible items in Q1 2025, but that's it - there has been no official specific date publicly announced anywhere.

See here for exact quote and links to sources:

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/Will-2pm-Wednesday-chat-go-ballistic-over-mandatory-S...

While it's possible it could happen on the 10th, and may even seem to make logical sense to do it on the same day they are changing prices, there is absolutely nothing in that announcement or anywhere else that actually directly or explicitly says that it will happen on the 10th - and we all know that eBay often doesn't do what might seem to make logical sense. 😂

Hope that helps clear up the confusion!

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

It is the price changes - I have never used SD and wonder if anyone who has would be kind enough to post if these prices are any different to what they usually are?

Please see below for further details of the new pricing structure:

Yes, the main roll-out of SD hasn't happened yet but I thought I read somewhere on here that SD has been used in the Clothing category?

Yes it  has, I think it started last year with the clothing category.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

"Buyers will be charged a flat fee of 75p per item, which will only be charged once if purchasing multiple items within a listing.

You'll also be charged 4 per cent of the item price up to £300, and 2 per cent of any portion between £300 and £4,000.

It means that a £20 item will incur a 75p flat fee plus an 80p variable fee, meaning customers will have to pay an additional £1.55 plus postage." (ThisIsMoney web site)

That is not going to encourage buyers.

Re: Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

You consistently have a poor attitude…. Anyone is free to take part in discussions regardless of whether you believe their opinion or advise to be relevant or not just in the same way as you don’t have to be a football player, football manager or pundit to have an in depth discussion about football

Besides just because someone has a business account it doesn’t mean they don’t also have a private account. Most business sellers still need private accounts to sell their old clutter or to buy things for themselves, therefore despite what you might think these changes pretty much affect everyone here
