Ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb

I'm a private seller. Items I sell are between £2.90 - £10. Is It just me or will ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb make it near impossible to sell competitively. A few months ago Ebay got rid of Sellers' fees for private sellers, which was a welcome move. But this new change and getting rid of multi-buy discount for private sellers will make it worse than it was with the original fees.

income is income and taxable who ever you are or what you do (unless you are the king or very rich and can fiddle it ) capital gains is on your stuff you sell ,which for us its bits and pieces , which can add up ,just keep a note of what you do , but really capital gains is really for the big boys selling art work/houses etc now lowered  to £6000, any profit over this is taxed , but hard to work out on something you picked up 30 years ago and now  sold  for £10 ( and did you keep the receipt for £4.99 at the time)

some of the items i sold came from my late father's shed and were sold on behalf of my mother. a couple of items originally belonged to my great grandfather, were inherited by my grandfather, were inherited by my father, and finally inherited by mother ... can't a find a receipt for these!!! ...  and no idea of the original value.

Sorry this is not correct , if the seller wants to list a item at £10 eBay
will add the 4% + .75p to the your price . Ebay do not take it from the
original £10 .

😂👍got lots of this sort of thing ... My husband's parents kept *everything*, so did their parents....... and it's definitely a family trait 🙄

Yes, you are correct, but that's not what 'the-navigator' actually stated. They suggested that the fee would be taken from the seller's asking price, where in actuality it will be added onto the seller's asking price. Their figures were also inaccurate any circumstance.

From 4th Feb, the buyer fee for purchasing from private sellers will be 4% +75p.

£10.00 + £0.40 + £0.75 = Buyer will pay £11.15 + 'Simple Delivery' postage cost.

The seller will recieve £10 upon successful delivery.

Just watched our Evri driver leave a large packet outside the neighbours house (directly across the road from us) propped up against their front brick wall in full sight from the road !!

If that is the case: then the buyer is paying for (the supposed extra) protection, and therefore the buyer gets his full selling price ~

any bets E Bay will add the 75p first and then do the 4% on that total - every penny counts.....

All examples provided by ebay so far state that 4% is only charged on the seller's asking price, not on top of other fees.

The problem is that an item that you were selling for £10 will not go for £11.15  unless everyone is asking £11.15 which is unlikely and in any case the buyer will go to Amazon or a shop and get it for £10 .An item will only sell for what people are prepared to pay for it.I sell cheap stuff and if I raise my price 5p I can guarantee not to get a sale,I've tried so i know.The buyer fee is really a seller fee as many people have observed.

Some time ago there was an announcement that all the major selling sites had to provide sales data to the Inland Revenue.

Shortly afterwards it was announced that the Inland Revenue had taken on 24 extra staff to monitor this inflow of new data.

Assuming they analyse this data from size of sales downward I think it will be a long time before they get to me 🙂
