Ebay now seem to pay faster if buyer fills in Positive Feedback.

I sold an item last weekend, was delivered Tuesday so should have received payment today.

However, buyer filled in feedback on Tuesday evening, E-bay released funds Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning.

So, it would appear, on a sample set of one, that if the buyer fills in positive feedback E-Bay now release the funds quicker.

Didn't know that. Recently sent something untracked, funds will be released on May 18th. Does it get released sooner if buyer leaves good feedback? Did not know this was a thing. Was sent 2nd class so it could be a week anyway.

Get your funds faster after buyers leave  feedback

We’re pleased to announce improvements that will help private sellers access funds more quickly when buyers have left positive feedback. On 28 April, we expanded the eligibility criteria by raising the item cap on tracked orders from £25 to £750. This means you can benefit from your funds being released faster for more of your transactions.

I can confirm this works.

I sent 2 LPs out yesterday. They arrived today and funds were available when the buyer left positive feedback for me.

This is a good improvement on the SD process.

This has now been confirmed by a number of sellers.

So, well done E-Bay for this, although frankly you've really made a mess of Simple Delivery and the removal of Royal Mail Special Delivery as a shipping option, so fix that as well.

To put the 'Fast-Payout' into context, its not too many years ago on this platform (and still happens on other platforms currently) , payments made through Paypal were paid out instantly to the seller. Before the item was shipped , in fact ebay narrated not to ship until funds were in the sellers bank - times have changed. Do we think for the better?

If ebay think feedback is such a great tool, meriting the releases of payments, then why not establish viewable Feedback from buyers and sellers for the ebay platform.

No gratitude from me over this quicker release of private seller funds as I have a good memory and I used to get my funds overnight after a sale the previous day.

Also requiring positive feedback left to release a private sellers funds is a red herring as ebay know that the majority of buyers don't leave feedback so they will earn interest/invest the sellers money for the full duration.

Shame that the majority of buyers don't leave positive feedback when they receive their item.

Just had one today on my other site, item arrived today - value £100, seller left excellent positive feedback today, funds pending till May 15th. When I phoned customer service quoting the policy above they said I had misinterprited the wording and payment will be after 2 days. Not happy so put up to the payments department only to be told that what I read in the seller news was incorrect!

You couldn't make it up!

Here's the full transcript from eBay that their payments department insist is incorrect:

Get your funds faster after buyers leave feedback

We’re pleased to announce improvements that will help private sellers access funds more quickly when buyers have left positive feedback. On 28 April, we expanded the eligibility criteria by raising the item cap on tracked orders from £25 to £750. This means you can benefit from your funds being released faster for more of your transactions.

How it works:

Tracked orders: If your order subtotal is £750 or less, your funds will immediately be available upon receiving positive feedback from the buyer after delivery, instead of the usual 2-day wait. If your buyer doesn't leave positive feedback, you’ll still receive your funds 2 days after delivery confirmation.

Untracked orders: If your order subtotal is £10 or less, your funds will immediately be available once positive feedback is received from the buyer. If no feedback is provided, your funds will still become available 14 calendar days from the order date.

These changes are designed to enhance your selling experience by giving you faster access to your earnings. You’ll also still be able to use your pending funds to buy postage labels on eBay.

Does it show as delivered on eBay?  Positive feedback on its own is not sufficient.

'When sales proceeds will be available

eBay will typically make the sales proceeds of private sellers available in your eBay balance after the order has been successfully delivered, unless subject to a hold.

We'll use these criteria to determine when an item has been successfully delivered:

Items sent by post

  • Tracked: Funds will typically be available 2 calendar days after we receive confirmation from the tracked service that delivery to the buyer or pick-up location was successful. For example, if your order is delivered on Wednesday, you’ll get your funds on Friday
    • For tracked orders with a subtotal (excluding postage, fees, taxes) of £750 or less, funds will be available instantly if positive feedback is received from the buyer after delivery confirmation
    • For orders sent with Simple Delivery and dispatched within 3 calendar days, funds will be available 8 calendar days from the order date or 2 calendar days after we receive delivery confirmation, whichever comes first

  • Untracked, or tracked with missing delivery confirmation: Funds will be available 14 calendar days from the order date
    • For untracked orders with a subtotal (excluding postage, fees, taxes) of £10 or less, funds will be available instantly if positive feedback is received from the buyer'

Ebay now seem to pay faster if buyer fills in Positive Feedback.

For me, there is no possibility of misinterpreting the wording here:

[From 28th April]  For tracked orders with a subtotal (excluding postage, fees, taxes) of £750 or less, funds will be available instantly if positive feedback is received from the buyer after delivery confirmation.

However, clearly I don't understand the word instantly or the conditional clause.

I posted an item on Monday using a tracked delivery service.  Tracked?  Yes.

Tracking on Ebay shows it was delivered on Tuesday.   Delivered?  Yes.

The buyer left positive feedback almost immediately, very soon after receipt on Tuesday.   Positive feedback? Yes.

Today, Wednesday, in 'orders' it states 'Funds pending – in eBay balance 15 May.  Funds available instantly?  No.   (I can confirm, the item was sold for under £750.)

Can you clarify if the above paragraph in bold is correct, please?  If it is correct, why aren't payments being made instantly?

Update

Another item I sent on Monday, with a 2 day delivery, was delivered earlier today.

The buyer left positive feedback today.  The funds for this item have already been released for me to withdraw.

The cost of the item was under £9, the item which was delivered yesterday was over £100 but surely the new rule should apply to all items.

Hi @jckl1957 ,

That is how it should work.  The wording you have advised of below about the change from the 28th of April is correct.

There may be other risk reasons on why it may not apply to every order but as that would be specific to the account we wouldn't be able to share publicly.

@hummingbird-curios  if you have the item number for that order I can have it reviewed.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi Kat

This is my order number

18-13053-23999

Item number: 197273447230

Sent Monday 12th

Delivered Tuesday 13th and the buyer left positive feedback on the same day.

Payment due 15th May   (Item sold for £210)

Payments are being made on receipt of feedback for low cost items, but being held (still) until 48 hours after tracking for more expensive items.

I was paid today for a £9 sale which was delivered today and feedback left today,

The item sent on 12th was an expensive necklace and payment is being held.

How eBay should work and how things actually work are worlds apart. In my case, the item was tracked, shown as delivered and feedback left immediately. Payment was not released for another 2 days despite involving customer service and the payments team. Not really a problem for me money wise but more of a point of principle and strange that your employees didn't know anything about that particular policy.

I had a situation recently where on three occasions, I spoke to CS about the another situation and was given three conflicting answers including one saying that what I was told by the other two were incorrect.

On each occasion, it was forwarded as a complaint and I received three generic replies telling me that the cases were closed as the information given was correct!!!

Ebay seem to have departed from their core business and got themselves in a race to the bottom and although I don't use other similar selling platforms, I do use Facebook Marketplace with increasing success and sales overtaking eBay at an alarming rate.

Your recent changes cannot in any way be seen as positive but most people will trundle on and cope with changes as they occur.

Category changes a few years ago reduced sales but we carried on.

Buyer protection fees (Insurance on top of insurance which will eventually lead to a PPi type scandal)

but we carried on.

Changes to payments being  held now and released eventually, but we carried on.

Simple Delivery? It's so bad, stupidly complicated, can't combine postage, blackmailed to pay more for Royal Mail if you don't use Evri, which incidently is the worst performing delivery provider in the UK.

Simple delivery destroyed Poshmark and Mercuri in the US.

Race to the bottom - I think you're clearly winning.

Please please please listen to your customers, they're just not happy anymore.

Me, if Simple delivery is optional, fine but I'm off if Simple delivery is compulsory.

Hi @jckl1957 ,

I'm following up on your order example(£210) where the funds were released two days after delivery even though Buyer left positive feedback and it had delivery confirmation.  The feedback in this situation was left before delivery confirmation. This is why the funds were not released sooner. The feedback needs to be left after delivery confirmation.

Thank you,

Kat

yes ,that's all very well but if the tracking confirmation does not update for a few days...or a month....or it Never does,...which has been the case.....then the system is still broken.
