Not sure how I feel about this, if I wanted to advertise my items on Facebook Marketplace (I don't) then I'd be doing that already in tandem. I guess it depends on the items you sell.

Could be interesting. Can't see how Ebay will stop sellers from circumnavigating the part about not being allowed to make contact and give out personal details such as email address or phone numbers thus enabling off line deals to be made cutting out Ebay. They will probably want an upfront payment to help stop it happening I guess.

I assume it will just appear like any ad then when you click it it'll just take you to the ebay page so nothing crazy

I believe this story is related.

Yes i've seen this. Facebook took away all the little local selling groups now Ebay will take over marketplace.

If it is listed on Ebay and you sell it through market place even though you don't want to be on there Ebay will still deal with the payments etc

Yes, I realise that, I read the announcement.

Facebook Commerce doesn't exist in the UK as of yet. The only way currently to buy something on Facebook is to contact the seller and arrange everything over messenger. Its incredibly manual.
All that is happening here is the inclusion of ebay ads within the Facebook Marketplace. click the ad, it takes you to the ebay page and the order still takes place through ebay.

I absolutely do not want my items advertised elsewhere... particularly FB whereby I do not even have an account!
If this comes into play in the UK... that further seals my thoughts to not continue on eBay at all!

It's free advertising at no cost to the seller. What's the downside? Adverts of our ebay listings are already plastered over the internet. What's the difference about them appearing on Facebook?

For now!
If I wanted to " advertise" elsewhere or use FB marketplace to sell, that should be my choice!
If you think it is just " free advertising" for a broader visibility, good luck because it certainly isn't and leave that for others to research for themselves.

Choice!
Do you honestly think it is / or will be free ?
There are bigger things at play as we have seen with the " free to sell" only for private sellers to be penalised.
If you are a business and want that fair enough, but private sellers should not have to have something forced on them when they do not want it.

Yes, for now, it's free. Until it isn't. I'll take that as a win, just like being able to sell 'fee free' for a few months.

Love they way eBay say They are in partnership with FB, making it look like its the new
big thing and are doing us a massive favour.
Google ads are wherever Google wants to place them.
I pay for PPC with google ads for my website. Does not mean I am in partnership with
whatever page they chose to put them on.
