You are not alone, quite a few Sellers on eBay UK are fed up with using ad promotions since they became untethered from actual sales - either direct sales or halo ones. Manly like you concluded they are not worth it anymore.

They are what they are, talking about fees of course.

I am not a big time seller, average about 200 listings at any one time, so not a big boy.

Due to that I never promote items for sale to keep costs as low as I can.

But even then I average approx 25% overall to ebay in total fees, which I do feel is quite a bit.

However what do you, me or anyone else do about it?

Ebay are NEVER going to reduce fees, so we accept it.

Why?

Simply as no matter how you slice it, ebay is still the best platform out there for selling, yes there are others, but ebay in my humble opinion are still head & shoulders above all the others.

So what do I do?

I take / factor all those costs / fees into account when making purchases to sell here for a profit, simply if I can't make what I would call a reasonable amount, I simply don't buy it as a stock item, even if it's " Only a £1.00 more than I wanted to pay".

To me it's not the fees Ebay charge that is the killer, it's postage prices that kill it, especially for cheaper items where the cost of the item is now less than the postage cost to get it to a buyer.

And NO NO NO NO NO, I am not defending ebay, it's just how it is, they provide a platform for people to sell on & charge as much as they can get away with.

Would you do any less, if you were them?

I know I wouldn't, i'm in it for the income, ( And the social life it gives me - Which is important to me ) as without it, I don't make ends meet, so I bite the bullet & just get on with it, as it helps pay my bills & puts food on the table.

I see & read a lot of similar comment in regards to fees / costs, but it's simple as I said above, factor them all in beforehand & there should still be a profit margin ( Hopefully ).

Amazon was set up with the backing of bankers who paid for its hundred million dollars a year losses for twenty years as Amazon killed off the competition. Why this predatory trading was permitted, I don't know but it is to do with how our "democracies" are run in the interest of the billionaires. So we are in the situation that eBay and Amazon dominate the marketplaces and everyone has to fit in if they can. If you live in a big town, and have a car you can probably trade better at car boot sales than on eBay: sell more  with less time and work, the prices might be lower although given the current prices, eBay prices are lower than car boot prices.
