EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

I haven't had eBay's notice - prolly because it's a long time since I sold anything here.

However, on top of all the other worries raised here, isn't it true that Royal Mail costs far more than EVRi… sometimes nearly twice as much?

Definitely not what I've found, the Royal Mail up front charge is inclusive of a good compensation, tracking, weights etc etc, with EVRI these increments take their charges over Royal Mails Fee's.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

It will be interesting to see if Vinted capitalizes on this, by expanding what can be sold with them. If you lose the private sellers eBay pritty much just becomes a more expensive TEMU.

If others are remotely similar to me, if they lose the private sellers they also lose the buyers.

I only sell so I can buy other bits instead.

They are committing corporate suicide.

All of their own doing with no help from supporters of Ebay - In fact they have activated the self destruct button - Their forward thinking, or to be realistic their lack of it is crazy, absolutely crazy, in fact it makes you wonder have the enemy infiltrated their ranks but they are to complacent to see it -- YET.

'eBay pritty much just becomes a more expensive TEMU.'

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which , oddly enough, is the exact opposite of what the ebay CEO wants ebay to become ; Jamie Ianon-thingy would like ebay to become known for High-end items and Luxury Goods.(!)

Obviously this is why ebay want to get rid of small, low-cost item sellers, second-hand stuff sellers, broken old tech sellers  etc........ Well that's basically just get rid of private sellers!

Which is what they're doing.

But luxury, high-cost items? On ebay?   The sellers of such are way too scared of being scammed by the buyers, and the buyers are way too scared of being scammed by the sellers............ I don't see it going well.

Does Vinted allow the seller to use RM with collection from their home?  Either thru V, or direct to the RM site (as I currently do).

This is essential if they're to pick up new business from sellers here, no matter how much they expand their selling categories.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

becuase although they could have been a contender back in the day, eBay are barley worth a percent of Amazons worth. They could not afford to do so. Why they destroy the one strength they have in this market is another matter.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Because Amazon actually sells stuff and INVESTS a huge amount of money in infrastructure and transport networks.  Like the company or not, it does actually provide jobs in some of the communities in which its customers live, and puts something back into those communities.

Ebay has NEVER sold anything at all (other than the insane number of adverts that clutter ever page of the site putting off buyers), knows NOTHING WHATEVER about selling, transportation or logistics, and invests ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the communities in which its customers live.

That's why one of the above is a runaway success that many people quite like to deal with, whereas the other one a great many people absolutely loathe and detest. Take your pick.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Have to say...when I need to buy something the first place I tend to go now is Amazon. I have Prime and apart from watching movies and series often and free, I like that I can usually have things delivered next day again, free...and if there are any issues it is easy to return without having to pay postage and refunds land in my account quickly. Ebay on the other hand often entails hassle, getting seller to actually respond, agreeing and then the return taking forever and you may well be asked to pay even if whatever it is is faulty... one person I needed to return a teeshirt to because the actual measurement differed significantly from his listing called me an idiot for 'not being able to read'.   I have no idea how it fares for sellers on Amazon and am aware of the criticism levelled at them regarding working conditions etc etc, but people can I gather make good money and dont have to work there forever.  I heard a comment only yesterday from a chap who made a plan to work there and 'put up' with all the sh*t because he wanted to salt away most of what he earned to fit with his life plan......Different strokes etc etc etc.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Agree, I only ever use RM48 and find their charges on a par with Evri and unlike Evri they dont charge extra to collect.  Where I live also Evri are pretty hopeless, always late and I feel sympathy for the drivers who are always rushing, late and look in distress...such a shame.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Postage is still tracked £2.70 no use for small value items like stamps, then there's some wallet you have to get into with all the photo id that goes with it, early days for collectables not for me

I don't need this for Temu i buy direct great service don't mind waiting and now they have local warehouses, i've got most of my diy stuff from there. For returns they often refund and tell you to keep the goods

Interesting, that's someone with enough family wealth that doesn't really care if they get fired. There's no way eBay could ever pivot to that.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

EBay are going to keep custom postage for light (under 100g) items that fit in an envelope (not sure if large letter is included )priced under £10

so you’ll be able to do your own postage but still have to wait for your money longer than with tracked

we will see what happens after the 15th

cant wait to have a play around lol

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

not sure what the wallet thing is!
I have sold lower value things from £4.50 occassionally a little lower (before buyer protection fee) with the £2.70 postage. The Buyer Protection fee makes the low value items pointless - a lot of my purchases were low value. And Simple Delivery doesn't allow for combined postage, so perhaps my buying will be affected more than my selling!

It's absolutely ridiculous. I've just withdrawn all my items and will sell them through other channels.
