I have been buying and selling on ebay for 25 years and am a top rated seller. Have bought and sold online stuff as well as many physical items eg cars etc. All online these days but the other day i sold a bit of garden machinery that I no longer needed. Put up as auction with "collect in person". All went well - got decent price, nice local chap turned up, paid me the money and went away happy with the machine......
So now I just have this open sale on ebay and no idea how to close it off - any advice out there? Went to mark as "Collected" but asking for some code.
Suspect I would have been better off selling it on FB Marketplace

You should have got the 6 digit collection code from your buyer, this is proof that the buyer has been and collected their item.
Maybe message them now and ask them to check eBay messages and emails for the number, then you can add it to the order details.
When you say that your buyer paid you the money, did you accept cash? If so, the sale didn't take place on eBay.

Thanks for the reply - i am obviously out of touch with ebays policies albeit I dont recall them informing me but no doubt they did at some point.
Yes I accepted cash on collection - the chap that bought it was a farmer and there is no way that him or anyone would buy an item without looking at it first and checking working etc. So I guess in future I need to sell these kind of things elsewhere - that fine but does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of the open sale - its causing me annoyance as I have 100s of items to pricess each day and I have to manually exclude this open sale every time.
Thanks for all your help

You have to get the 6 digit code from the buyer. Youll have to message him and ask for it. I didnt know my first time either and I gave buyer the goods and let him drive away. No cash in hand, all money tied up on ebay. Afterwards I had a heart attack, because it would have been very easy for him to claim he never picked the item up, and id have no evidence that he did. Luckily he was a decent bloke, and sent me the code so I could complete the order. I had fully written off the price of the item, I was devastated calling myself an idiot for hours.
Failing that the only other option is to cancel the order completely. If you already have the cash anyway then id just cancel the order, job done.

There wont be a 6 digit code. This wont be generated unless the items been paid for at ebay checkout. As far as ebays concerned the buyer hasn't paid.

Is it showing as sold or is the listing still live?
