So my buyer first messaged to state item not received so I uploaded the tracking with his address and this had been signed for a day later he messaged saying he had ongoing royalmail problems which is irrelevant and not my problem 5 days later he messages saying he purchased same item from various places and my item was not brand new another message 5 days later was he was returning my item , what protection have sellers like us got to deceitful buyers like this I did free tracked delivery and packaged well ect my items are new and boxed . My payments for all my items sold are now on hold until matter resolved any ideas or advice pls 🙏🏼

So I take it he opened a 'returns case'? For item 'not as described'?
Once the item has arrived back with you, you don't have a lot of choice about what to do 🙁
You have to refund the buyer. (and refund within 3 days of receiving it back, or you'll get a 'defect' from ebay...)
If, when the item is returned, it's not the same one you sent him or it's been damaged etc. , come back to this board for more advice!
