I had a buyer open a return for a coat that didn’t fit. I accepted the return and the buyer returned the item, they lived close to me so just returned it by dropping it off themselves. I (think) they’ve then closed the return themselves thinking that they’ve closed the return as in returned the item but now I can’t refund them. They are now asking what is happening. Am I able to fix this? Do I need to contact eBay so sort this. There doesn’t seem to be any options to now refund them.

You won't be able to refund through a closed case, can you not refund using the drop down options next to the order?

Sellers can make a refund up to 90 days after the sale:
You can issue full or partial refunds for items in Seller Hub or My eBay up to 90 days after the original transaction. Here's how:
You'll get an email confirming that the refund has been initiated, and another email once the refund is complete. The refunded amount will appear in your order details. You can refund up to 100% of the transaction.
