Buyer Protection

The introduction of Buyer Protection for me as a private seller will ultimately make it near impossible for me to sell my unwanted items competitively. I will rather give my items away to charity and will also start to think twice about buying via eBay. Buyer protection in my mind is wrong for the private seller and since introduced, winning bids turning into non payers.

If you're selling low value items then the new buyer fee with make the cost prohibitive. If you have items in the same category you could bundle them together as a job lot.

Failing that, if it's no longer cost effective for you to sell on eBay then giving your items to charity, as you mention,  is a nice idea.
