I sold an item last night and the buyer lives in the same town as me so contacted me to arrange collection and paid cash.
The item was still showing as Awaiting Payment, so I was unsure how to sort this out.
I marked it as payment received, but it's still saying send it.
Do I mark it dispatched? It doesn't give me the buyers address, so they selected collection.
Not sure what to do to get this closed off.

eBay did away with the option to pay in cash a month or two ago, so technically you've broken the rules by accepting a cash payment after the date that this new rule came into force. Try seeing whether you can deactivate the confirmation that the buyer paid - if you can then select "Problem With Buyer's Address" and see if that will close the transaction down. If that doesn't work then you may just have to wait until the message eventually goes away.
Going forwards bear in mind that arranging for buyers to pay cash on collection is now against eBay's rules, and you could get penalised by eBay if you get caught doing so. Personally I think it's a bit illogical of eBay to do away with the option of accepting cash for items being collected in person, but then again they probably implemented the rule as a result of their ever increasing paranoia about the possibility of items being advertised for sale on the site and then being sold off-eBay when a potential buyer expresses an interest in the item.

From Ebays side of things they will only see that the buyer hasn't paid so they could technically get a non payment strike.
To avoid that you would have to cancel the order in some way.

Make sure you turn off the auto unpaid item from opening if it's turned on:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase
I think it will time out after 30 days so the buyer won't get a strike.

Good info by other sellers - I would mark it as dispatched and close it down if you can... has the buyer left you feedback? If so, reciprocate. Deal done 😉

If the buyer hadn’t paid through eBay how was seller able to give buyer address?🤔I didn’t know it was possible to exchange addresses until the buyer has paid and selected the Collect in Person option.

The buyer did not need the address, it was collection , so the seller presumably would have given the buyer their address.
Edit - spelling mistake.

But the point is that the seller wouldn't be able to provide the buyer with their address through eBay messages until the buyer paid as that would be against eBay rules. Contact must have been made outside eBay.

Then I have no idea - perhaps ask the OP how it was done?

Cashcrime is death. Doubleplus bad.

They will only get a non payment strike if the seller opens a case.

You don't open cases any more, you cancel for non payment, and this can be done automatically by ebay if that's how the seller has it set up.

Can I list an item for the deposit price and collect the remaining balance in cash on collection/delivery?
Example: I'm selling a bike for £200 but would like to list the item with a price of £20 (to cover the deposit) and then collect the remaining £180 in cash when the buyer collects or when I deliver the bike, explicitly making sure that the full price of the item is listed in the title description.

No.
In case you didn't know, cash is now a another country with respect to ebay.
It was banned as a payment method some months ago.

And seeing what @senpai-sells proposed, now I can see why ebay might have been inclined to withdraw the option of cash.
It's really sad the way a few low lifes make things bad for the rest of us. Much like the abusers of no fees on postage ruined things years ago and caused ebay to take action (not the best way to have solved it, but an easy and profitable way for ebay).
Look up 'Tragedy of the commons' on Wikipedia. Indeed, it's happening to the whole planet.

Thank you for clarifying. I haven’t used eBay in years, so I’m just catching up on their new rules.

And seeing what @johnwash1 proposed, I now understand why a rush to judgment can cause such lasting harm.
It’s truly unfortunate how a few reckless individuals can tarnish things for everyone else. Much like how the baseless accusations and overreactions during the Dreyfus case tore society apart, it's easy to see how assumptions can lead to irreversible damage.

Well, hopefully that's the matter settled and no need for national shame and years of introspection, or a feature film.

Yes, I'm familiar with the Dreyfus Affair.
I may have misinterpreted your earlier posting, if so I apologise. I thought you were proposing selling something with £20 paid through ebay, and 180 quietly transferred outside ebay. Something that certainly happened with some transactions for fee avoidance.
And I was triggered to respond in haste because I much preferred receiving funds in cash, not only because it reduced the risk of a scamming chargeback (though I admit I've never experienced one) but because I hate the way this country seems to be moving headlong towards cashless. I like using cash. It makes it much easier to budget when I see "OMG, I have to break into another 20", rather than mindlessly tapping a piece of plastic.
