Are buyers' fees crippling sales? And a moan .... !

Nothing seems to work well anymore .... even trying to see latest posts.  The dates are all mixed up - it's a mess.  Same as choosing where to put your items.  It used to be so easy, but AI has taken over and I find it a nightmare.  That's my moan for the day!

Everything was working so well and I don't know about anyone else, but paying my final fee was never a grumble for me.  There's no such thing as a 'free lunch' .... something else must be going on.

Buyer has to pay 75p + 4% up to a purchase of £300.  Would it be OK to add a few coins to a parcel?  One could say that on the listing?  I realise it's a matter of trust ... but that would be on both sides.  It could perhaps be problematic if sending small or even large A4 size envelopes.

We would have had to pay a final fee anyway.  I think it was around 13%.  I guess ebay will come down on us like a ton of bricks and it would not be permitted?  Any thoughts?

Paying a final fee gave transparency. You could see what eBay were adding onto a purchase.

If items aren't high value I have reduced my selling prices slightly because I don't sell to make excessive profits.

We can’t put are prices down anymore we don’t know what to do we might go on to shopify as it is so much easier on there

I agree with you.

Not everyone can lower their prices to compensate for these annoying extra charges for buyers.

Hopefully buyers will have the decency to not blame sellers because of these new policies.

I love some of your items and the prices are great. They will make great gifts.

EBay is becoming a joke now and we are all losing trust in eBay they are just trying to get money from whoever they can

You are totally right.

I want to reach 20 years as a buyer and seller in April and then just use Ebay to buy things.

I've just put a post up called A Conspiracy Theory which might sound far fetched but not impossible.

I hope it gets people thinking.

Looking at what you sell the buyer protection fee and delayed payments should not apply to you as you are a business.  You just need to upgrade your account.

Thank you - that's kind.  I'm beside myself at the moment as I'm struggling with my heart and the NHS.  My place is a mess with all my collectables ..... not to mention 14 plastic storage boxes of vintage/antique linens.  I wish ebay hadn't done this and I wish for everyone that our lives weren't turned upside down with the cost of living, etc etc.  I'm waiting for auction houses to come back to me, but I've been down that road before and I know now what people used to say years ago, that they cannot be trusted (some of them) and that the fees are extortionate.  Which of course leaves with the thought of being sensible and start reducing and 'listing for a song'.  At the end of the day something is only worth what anyone will pay for them.  Thanks once again and good luck with everything.

i just post inside a A5 card and stiff card A5 envelope and don't require tracking as it would make my items too dear, so now i have to wait 2 weeks to get paid for each item i sell, the buyers fee has increased the price of my items, and sales have dropped off, what was once a good platform for sellers has now become a nightmare, where once it was so easy.  been on here buying and selling since 2003  and never known it this bad.  losing the will tbh, the final fee was a much better system that everyone was happy with, so why change? so frustrating. rant over

Rumour has it that they brought in the changes to persuade businesses trading on private accounts to upgrade.  Business accounts don't have the BPF or payment holds.

Businesses tend to sell multiples of new items.

If true then we all have to suffer, surely there was a way to identify just the private sellers that were incorrectly registered?

If they are having trouble identifying them then they should come to these boards as its full of them. Just look for the ones complaining the loudest.

But those complaining loudly could be fed up of being affected as a private seller and private buyer after being on here for 19 years and who is in no way a business.

Its quite easy to spot the business sellers trading on a private account and there are many of them on here complaining about the changes.Genuine private sellers sell off there unwanted goods, these sellers are not.

That is very true.

As a collector who only sells some things from my personal collection so I can buy new items these changes have really had a negative effect on me as a private seller and private buyer.

Its early days yet, i guess we will all adapt as we have to all the other changes over the years or give up selling and buying on here.
