Am I paying postage twice?

I just received payout for an item and I'm struggling to make sense of the payout. It appears that the cost of shipping has been deducted twice.

Here is the breakdown

What your buyer paid

Subtotal  28.15

Buyer protection fee 1.85

Postage 3.71

Order total 33.71

What you earned

Order total 33.71

Buyer protection fee - 1.85

Transaction fee 0.00

Postage label -3.71

Order earnings 28.15

This all makes sense until my actual payout was 24.44. The difference is 3.71, the same as the Postage cost.

Am I being charged twice for postage? When I sorted the shipping label it asked me to buy the postage but I'd assume that would come off the overall figure collected of 33.71 but it has come off my net earnings. I'm a bit lost as to where the 3.71 that the Buyer paid has gone.

Hopefully this can be easily explained as an error on my part so that I can avoid it in the future.

Re: Am I paying postage twice?

It seems I've answered my own question. Because I opted out of the Simple Delivery option I have had to pay the postage out of my own pocket and the original delivery the buyer paid, from what I can see, is refunded to them. It's buried in the T&C.

That's on me for not doing my research but what a terrible system!

Lesson learnt.

No, its not your fault.  The way its presented is confusing.

Everything that eBay has done is the last three months I am finding confusing.

Re: Am I paying postage twice?

If you don't mind me asking - how did you get the buyer's address? Previously people said it was only available on the Simple Delivery shipping label or invoice. I just wondered if anything had changed on that. thanks

I believe you can claim back the cost of the SD label if you don't use it.  I imagine after a delay.

If you paid for the label you can cancel it here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller

If the buyer paid for it it will be refunded automatically in 30 days.

Re: Am I paying postage twice?

"the original" simple "delivery the buyer paid, from what I can see, is refunded to them."

After 30 days, automatically I understand.

(If the Seller had paid for the Simple Delivery postage then they can claim it back, if unused - they need to do so within 14 days of the item selling.)

Re: Am I paying postage twice?

I could still choose other options, in my case Yodel store to door, and it let me generate the shipping label. It seems if you choose anything other than Evri or Royal Mail the cost is down to you

Re: Am I paying postage twice?

You may be able to use Yodel now and use Custom Postage, but Simple Delivery will be mandatory for every Private seller, it's just been a very,  very slow rollout since April 15th.

Under SD currently,  the only 2 choices are Evri and Royal Mail.  eBay do inform us other services will be added in due course.
