Accepted offer from buyer but status is showing "We couldn't process this payment". Why is this?

Underneath it saying "We couldn't process this payment", it then says "We let the buyer know and asked them  to update their payment method before the time expires".

So how long has the buyer got to pay for the item before the time expires?

And what happens after that? It's not even showing the item in the list of items I've sold so can't see how to leave Negative Feedback for the buyer for non-payment.

I have contacted the buyer but so far have not received any communication from him after first contacting him 6th February.

I have had things like this happen before where I have sold items but items haven't been paid for and it's usually because the buyer's account doesn't appear to have been active for several months or a few years so often made me wonder if the accounts have been hacked and the account holder has no idea that their account has purchased an item from me.

But this member's account looks like it's been more recently active.

So either the buyer is a complete t*** and is  purchasing items from me and others without having any intention to pay for them by not updating their payment method and then completely ignoring my message requests for payment or maybe his account has also been more recently hacked.

Can anyone explain this?

Thanks.

On the 4th day you can just cancel the order using ‘buyer didn’t pay’. That’s all you need to do, You’ve still got your item and the buyer gets a ‘strike’ which can lead to buying restrictions which is what you want to happen if this is a serial non payer.

You can’t leave a negative feedback for a buyer and a bad review on a positive green dot is a big no-no in eBay’s eyes, so don’t do it.

Try not to over think it or get angry about it. Non payers are part of selling in eBay. If you really don’t want them, list Buy it Now with immediate payment required.

It would still be nice to know if the buyer has cruelly put in an offer for an item he didn't intend to purchase and if so, why or if his account has been hacked.
Why would someone intentionally put an offer in for an item but not intend to pay for the item should their offer be accepted?

And why ignore their messages from their seller too as this would only worsen the situation?

Why? It doesn’t matter why. Again, try not to over think ebay.

Nobody has been hacked. You just got someone who couldn’t/didn’t pay.

Don’t bother messaging the buyer. Cancel as soon as you’re able, relist, block the buyer and consider just listing at your best price and using BIN with immediate payment from now on.

It might not matter why to you but it does to me!

And I am not overthinking it!

Anyway, this Best Offer was set up so that once I accepted it, the payment should have automatically gone through.

Don't know if the buyer just didn't update their payment method on ebay or what.

Wow.

I’ll leave you to it then.

If you don’t want advice, don’t post.

I never said I didn't want advice.

I just said that it matters to me as to why someone did what they did.

Saying that is not saying to you or anyone else on this ebay community discussion board that I don't want advice.

That is you overthinking and overexaggerating things from what I said.

Resorting to throwing my words back at me is just childish.

You’ll never know why people do what people do.

And I'm not being childish either.

When a buyer makes an offer and it is accepted by the seller the listing now remains live, and still available to others, until payment is completed by the buyer which is why it doesn't show as a sold item.  If payment isn't made automatically then, as far as I am aware, the buyer will have 24 hours in which to complete payment after which the offer will no longer be valid.  Leaving negative feedback for a buyer has never been an option.

Whoever offered probably just needs to update their card. Ive had it before, actually last week my card expired, I think in such a case the item might remain active until they pay but dont hold me to that.
