AS A PRIVATE SELLER, EBAY PLEASE BRING BACK SELLER FEES & BIN SIMPLE DELIVERY

I wish Ebay would bring back seller fees for us private sellers & at least give us the option to opt out of this ridiculous 'Simple Delivery'  nonsense altogether! I don't sell much, i'm not interested in QR Codes as i'm not on TikTok or like 10 Years old, plus i don't have a printer.

AS A PRIVATE SELLER, EBAY PLEASE BRING BACK SELLER FEES & BIN SIMPLE DELIVERY

In my years selling and buying on e bay i have been very fortunate (only buy or sell through RM) that i have never had one item go missing.  Only items that have not been delivered have been when the seller quoted RM and then sent EVRI (local courier will not deliver to off road houses) and then they frequently lied about it, no one home, could not find the place etc (big sign on main road should have been a bit of a giveaway!).  The best one was when i was sat at the computer waiting for an important call from the vet when suddenly an e mail flashed up saying they could not deliver as no one home!   Funny that, i have a small bungalow and the doors were open, we are off road and can hear any vehicles arriving.....

Not the issue unfortunately.

Lots of reasons for results not to match what you're looking for:

Poor or lacking descriptions on the part of sellers is probably the biggest issue.

Poor eBay options such as not being able to specify a size of clothing if there isn't one in that size already listed.

Minor variations in items that are never included in listing descriptions.

Different items that share the same/similar names.

You, Me and thousands of other Sellers feel the same. I guess we all paid for it when we cheered from the rooftops that Private Sellers would no longer pay fee's. As always...be carefull what you wish for.

There have been many changes to eBay that have been disliked, to one degree or another - but it is the BPF & Simple Delivery combo that looks like being the game-changer.

eBay will have been well aware that the BPF would certainly not be popular, but I wonder if they were prepared for quite how much outcry & opposition there would be over Simple Delivery?

I wonder if they understood:

  1. the pride that private sellers took in getting the postage right,
  2. how important it was to be able to use a convenient drop-off location,
  3. the strong preference to be able to continue with RM at the normal prices, and
  4. how some sellers want to pay the postmaster and/or have difficulties with QR codes etc

I think they probably did to some extent. But I don't think they cared.

They want to grab the young, new online customer base (like V inted) and change from being seen as 'the old fashioned shopping place' populated by old fogeys.

1) Just treat the BPF as the seller fee and calculate your prices accordingly.

2) As I understand the BPF it is an insurance premium which means ebay will handle missing or NAD items directly with the buyer - seller will still do refunds on returns of course.

I think if you offer free delivery you can still use the courier of your choice and when the ebay label expires they refund the charge - though really they should not charge until the label is scanned at acceptance.

True but the other place does their thing so much better than ebay's attempts with these changes. I've tried a few orders there and can't understand why the buyer tax is so very low or why they seem to be repeatedly giving me free postage on such low value items. Maybe it's a perk for new customer accounts but I don't recall them telling me about it during signup.

2) I thought ebays hugely inflated postage prices at least for royal mai, was to cover for that

the bpf is for 24/7 customer service as all the other things ebay say it’s for we’re in existence before its introduction

I feel your pain, and a hell of a lot of other Ebayers also want the option of 'Choice'. Certainly Not to be Mandatory FORCED into adopting an Alien system of posting items to buyers, which is certainly not Simple at all. It needs to be called Complicated Delivery, or, Difficult Delivery, or, better still - Punishing The Disabled Postage System, as believe-you-me - the Mentally Disabled will absolutely be affected more than most, especially those with autistic spectrum.

To totally remove the ability to simple parcel up an item, and write on the front of the parcel the buyers address, and if it's an item being posted by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery, or, Royal Mail Special Delivery, International Tracked/Signed For - then we'd also add our own address onto the real of the parcel - and then drive, walk or cycle to the Post Office and leave the parcel to those paid staff professionals to do the rest. Now, that is very simple. No need to work anything new online, or need QR Codes, or Printers, or to worry about Parcels weight and length/width/depth - and The Post Office's won't be refusing them, because the AI (Artificial Intelligence) system messed up at Simple Delivery over the Parcels weight and length/width/depth - as naturally Ebay sellers use varying types of packaging to secure the safe delivery of their items to the buyers, and that can add to the weight and overall size. For example, I sell Video Cassettes and some customers particularly want it in a card box, to protect damage to the plastic video box, so AI cannot figure that out, as their logic is a one-size-fits-all approach, which is not logic at all, it's dumb-stupid.

Now, I fully accept and also condone that Ebay should absolutely evolve forward, and embrace new systems such as Simple Delivery, but for god sake make it Optional, not Mandatory. Allow people either with disabilities, or people who simply don't have a Smart Phone (such as myself) so QR-Codes simply are impossible, and that leaves having to buy a Printer (if people don't have one) - and there is also other complications, such as both Evri and Royal Mail being those two optional services - but Evri has a big list of items which they simply won't compensate even a penny on, if it gets damaged or stolen, etc.. - well, most buyers and sellers won't have a clue about that, so many people shall end up getting scammed and losing money.

In fact, I wouldn't care if Ebay actually charged Sellers a 5% commission - if we chose to opt out of Simple Delivery, so at least then Ebay makes money out of this compromise, which I would be more than happy to pay for.

But as things stand, I simply had to end all my listings and unless things change from this Tragic Mandatory Simple Delivery service by Ebay, then I'll be forced into making a Mandatory decision of my own, and that is selling ALL my items on other sites which do allow the Post Office counter service - which Ebay has allowed for almost 30 years from when it began.

Hahaha maybe ebay could develop some more awful services and get us to pay not to use them.

That could be very lucrative over time if only people didn't have the freedom to leave.

SD is just such a massive land grab and impact on people's lives, so quickly after the buyer tax too, although there never would have been a good time for something so unwelcome.

Well, my only concern is Mandatory Simple Delivery, as despite all the other changes Ebay's made in the past. This is the ONLY decision which has led me to end all my listings, and not be able to advertise any additional items either. I'm left dangling for the time being, and the only future I see is to venture to pastures new. As primarily a music seller, then Discogs and Facebook is waiting with arms wide open, but if i was given the choice, I'd sooner remain solely on Ebay, as I love this site above all others - until Mandatory Simple Delivery came along.  👿

eBay now have BPF (buyers protection fee) which is added to all private sellers listing prices, 75p + 4% eBay put on and eBay keep that extra money, not the seller.
