question is the effect it will have after the 4th of feb ...

1, will sellers walk away from e bay and it implodes from within.

2, how quiet will e bay be after the 4th will sales plummet to the point of it no longer being viable to sell on eb.

3, i assume this will ripple not only from retail sales but to vehicles as well say for example you win a car in auction for £600 will you still pay 4% and 75p  which makes it £624.75 i cannot see people wearing that.

4, will buyers turn to e bays biggest rivals amazon or ali express to buy there as someone pointed out if they wanted a £10 blue ray dvd thats what they want to pay not £11.75 and would shop elsewhere to get it at that price and if not the above rivals but tesco, sainsburys ,morrisons or asda when they do their weekly shop.

5, the BS are dancing with joy about this and snipe it will prevent so called BS on private accounts having unfair advantage which i think is absolute hollyhocks .. we all dont all have £1,000 plus to buy stock and afford to sit on it some of us are happy minows  and should get off their self rightous soap boxes if the buyers have gone where will your sales come from.

6, i think this will be the biggest disaster experiment e bay have ever tried and will come to regret it maybe even back pedal rebrand and return to the old system of 10% for buyers and sellers to attract people back to e bay.

what are your thoughts on this..

I think some will walk but i think things will mostly just carry on. There is always a big noise when new changes happen with everybody saying ebay is finished ( been hearing it on here for over 20 years) but it never is. There will also be new people join who will only know the new changes and will not care.

As a private seller, selling years of accumulated "tat" to subsidize my pension, I don't really care if an item sells or not. I just keep listing untill it does. Ebay can add whatever extra charge they like to my item, the buyer will either buy or they won't. I either make a sale or I don't. I'm not relying on sales to run a business so the only losers will be eBay and their buyers.

I strongly suspect that eBay in their greed and mismanagement have started the process of self destruction. Shame really but someone else will be along to replace them, just like Woolworths.

The private sellers who cannot or doesn't want to change to new rule will leave. some might sit, wait and see how it goes. Buyers who buy loads of low price items will certainly think twice.

So while it will bring more money in ebay coffers, the activity on the platform might not be that greatly improved. And then there is the economy factor. See how the current goverment in UK runs the system as the PM promised people will have more money in thier pockets.

Surely if you are buying to sell whether it be £1000 or £100000 then you are  BUSINESS seller - and you should register as such. I am not dancing for joy - I just want a level playing field.

Two things:

I doubt vehicles are included in the buyer protection fee as ebay are not going to change stance and give buyers of vehicles any protection.

Simple delivery already exists as an option in some categories, while it limits seller choice, it does not limit them to Packlink.  I suspect this will stay the same as RM is one of the SD choices and they are not part of Packlink.

EBay's new 'Simple delivery' is supposedly going to be compulsory at some point this year.

Where 'Simple delivery' is used Packlink only currently applies to items sold in clothing categories.  For all other categories Packlink is not used.  Presumably, the clothing categories will be brought in line with the rest eventually.

Vehicles are indeed excluded:

Is this fee optional?

The Buyer Protection fee is applied to all listings* by UK-based private sellers.

*Excludes Vehicles, Classified Ads, and Property

by the looks of it e bay are cherry picking where they can benefit the most and leaving the established things like vehicles where they get a £10 listing fee and commission alone
