I’m the top seller in my category, and unlike my three biggest competitors, I’ve never relied on promoted listings. The few times I tested it, the results were either negligible or actually cut into my net profits — so frankly, it pays not to promote. There was also a period when everyone jumped on promoted listings, which made them practically meaningless. At the end of the day, it’s eBay’s responsibility to bring traffic to the platform, not the sellers’ job to pay extra just to be seen.
