I am a private seller. I recently sold an item, which was sent using ebays simple delivery . Unfortunately, the item didn’t arrive damaged anccor to the buyer and the buyer open a case with eBay. I refunded the buyer and then contacted eBay as the item was sent with EBays Simple Delivery with buyer protection and under ebays T&S the buyer and l should have been protected
EBay stated that l should not have refunded the buyer but should have contacted them first to resolve the issue. EBay will not compensate me as l have issued the refund to the buyer.
This is the first time an item has arrived damaged whilst using EBay’s Simple Delivery process. EBay state the seller (me) is protected if the item is lost or damaged from the point the item is scanned into the carrier's delivery network and until it's marked as delivered. This stated is misleading given sellers are still requested by eBay to cover the cost of damaged items using eBay’s Simple Delivery and still ask sellers to issue refunds.
So if this happens to you don’t issue a refund if you do eBay considers the matter closed. You are not protected with their Simple Delivery Ebays T&C are misleading. I hope you have better luck than me.

*Sigh* you are very well protected with Simple Delivery, but I agree they could make this clearer to sellers using SD for the first time:
Long story short, eBay handle it, not you. You don't work directly with the buyer, or refund directly - either in part or in full. You let eBay handle it. Generally what eBay do is refund your buyer and let you keep the money from the sale. They also protect you from Negative or Neutral Feedback related to lost, late or damaged deliveries.
We all make mistakes on eBay, and with new systems, so the important thing is to not let it upset you too much. Just learn from it and try again.

it does state ebay will handle delivery issues in the chat window when a buyer messages you. and again if a buyer opens a case, ebay intervenes.
what more can they do. 🤔

According to a poster in another thread the buyer sees the following if they go to send a message to the seller:
"This seller is using the Simple Delivery programme to post this item. For postage related questions including lost or damaged in transit, please contact eBay’s Customer Service or file a claim by clicking on the purchase history section from My eBay menu."

oh, that sucks then, yours must have fell through the system ☹️
i had a message on my chat window when it happened to me. and after i told the buyer to claim a not delivered ebay put the claim on hold. it's been delivered in the meantime, evri being evri i guess.
was it for a lot or can you just strike it off as one of those things, we all get them from time to time
