Posting Watch to Authenticator

Hi all,

I'm wondering how anyone is managing to sell a watch over £2,500 in value and posting to the Authenticator, fully insured?

£2,500 appears to be the RMSD limit (so anything exceeding that value renders the compensation element in the event of loss/damage null and void) and I understand Securas exclude parcels going to the Authenticator as this is classed as a third party.

Dozens of watches over that RMSD limit are sold every day in the UK - surely they're not being sent uninsured?

Any help appreciated.

This would be up to each seller, but in our experience, we have seen high value items like this one being delivered by all the usual courier such as DPD, DHL, FedEx, etc. Now, the protection value each courier will insure differs depending if you have a business account with them or not, some of our watch sellers use Secursus (you can see their website here) which is an insurance broker that offers insurance of high value parcel. I believe they offer cover up to £90,000. However, this is only a suggestion based on what we've seen, like I said before, in the end of the day, this would be up to each seller, as it looks like they go for the one they are the happiest and most comfortable with, basically.

Secursus specifically exclude transit to the eBay authentication centre

Just a quick question, when you sold the Omega, after the sale you get a 'free' postage label was this Royal Mail? Just when I'm selling sneakers via the authentication its automatically included and has DPD as the postage option and I cant select anything else. I've only had 2 issues in the 18 months plus and both times as its been scanned by a drop in store eBay have refunded the buyer and I've not received any marks on the account, I'm 99% sure eBay just self insure as the cost for insurance on the hundreds/thousands of pairs they sell each day would be more than covering it themselves.

The free label only applies to trainers going through a similar authentication process.

I've raised this as a significant issue with eBay as it would make sense for them to partner with a courier to allow parcels to be sent fully insured. I shudder to think of the value of watches currently being sent to Ruislip probably with no cover at all. 

By way of update, the only courier I see providing appropriate insurance is UPS via Overland Express. It's charged at a rate of 2% of parcel value, plus VAT. In my case, not great when I've been charged £90.

I can confirm secursus exclue ebay authentication site from there insurance making it void. I specifically emailed to ask.

Just to add to that, I emailed overland express, and just like Secursus they specifically will not insure to the eBay authentication centre.. it’s crazy, EBay needs to speak to DPD who ships watches post-authentication.. btw I spoke to both Securesus and Overland and they both say that it’s due to the fact nobody physically signs for the drop off, the parcels just go into a cage.. so it’s a significant security risk..

honestly though, I can see authentication falling apart as it’s impossible to ship as a private person
