Has anyone else experienced this? Seller sent me a blank A4 paper after refund

Hi everyone,

I had a very strange experience with a seller.

I opened a dispute because my item was delayed.

The seller eventually refunded me.

However, I later received an envelope via Evri from the seller that only contained a blank A4 sheet of paper.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Why would a seller do this after refunding?

I doubt anyone here can offer any "insights", just speculation and accounts of their own weird experiences.

I'd be just as intrigued as you are, though. Slightly unsettled, even. So, a few ideas:

An insulting message written in secret ink?

Or maybe the paper is symbolic of some aspect of the transaction (at least in the seller's mind). It would help to know what the item was.

Or perhaps the seller is just a bit strange, and decided to randomly send you a piece of paper!

It does seem a lot of hassle to make a gesture or send a message whose meaning will not be ascertained in the slightest by the recipient - but maybe your resultant head-scratchings is the whole idea, and there is no 'meaning' beyond a desire to befuddle you.

How as the refund made?  Did you have to escalate the case for your refund,  as you do mention they 'eventually' refunded you.

If that packaging wasn't damaged,  the seller then may be trying to redeem his good account standing as the above would have given them a damaging defect on their account.

Contacting Customer Services they can show with tracking an ' item' was received,  albeit late so courier / RM's fault!  Perhaps hoping any defect to be removed. You've been refunded so another refund for the same item cannot be made.

Just a thought, ' my wicked' side thinking this may be the case,  but it's anybody's guess what's happened here. !😶

My thoughts exactly. Also, they are attempting to get the refund reversed if it was an ebay forced decision. If they can successfully appeal using the tracking of the bit of paper as evidence then ebay will reverse the refund but cover the cost of refunding back to the seller themselves.

Can you tell from the label when that was posted?

It could be that the seller was scamming all along and actually sent the paper instead of your item at the time of sale, and it was delayed, or it could be that they sent it after the refund hoping to use the tracking to reverse the refund.

It's worth remembering (if somehow they reverse the refund and you lose it) that a late item counts as 'not as described' for the purpose of the money back guarantee.  You could therefore open another case.

The shipping of this item was delayed beyond my expectations. I filed a dispute and the seller finally refunded me, but the seller still sent the packaged "A4 white paper" according to the original tracking code. I found this very strange and asked the seller about it. The seller told me to "ignore it." Only.

When you say the refund was from the seller did you actually open an eBay case and the refund was through there?  

The seller is asking you to ignore the odd paper received,  personally I  would contact Customer Services and explain what has happened here, they can investigate if indeed the seller is trying to avoid the refund.  I strongly recommend contacting CS Only first thing on a weekday morning at 8 a.m. as there's more chance of Dublin answering, only speak to them,  it's a Call Back system so you'll hear if it's the dulcet tones of the Emerald Isles! 

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

In which case it does look like they are trying to blame RM / courier for a late delivery as they now have a tracking to show an ' item' was delivered, to perhaps have their refund paid back by eBay.

Yep,  I would contact CS, at 8 a.m. today if you can,  but ONLY  speak to Dublin and do please come back and tell us what they said,  it's intriguing all of us here !  🤔

Looks to me that the Seller is trying to get eBay to reverse any defect given & get any money refunded back to him/her.

Good advice from other Members regarding contacting eBay's CS as it will make them aware that you have received a blank piece of paper after you were refunded.

I don't think they will respond to messages, you need to get them to call you back if you want to alert them to the possibility of a fraudulent claim by the seller.

By ' sending messages'  do you mean you reported this to CS via the Call Back option?

Then,  that is all you can do,  you will not receive any reply as to what,  if any actions they will take.
