Free shipping and Its Cost , how to reduce the cost

I am a relatively new seller.

I saw experienced sellers here selling products on eBay for £9 for items that can weigh up to 2 kgs and provide free shipping with promoted listings.

I am really curious how a seller can operate like this. I see the shipping charge is somewhere around £5 or more for 2kgs parcel; eBay will charge anywhere from 8 to 20% of the selling cost, depending on the promotion percentage and selling fee. Of course there is inventory cost and storage cost. I wonder what magic it is?

I also see sellers selling small items on Amazon for £5 and still providing free shipping. Could anyone give me some guidance on this? Thanks a million.

They buy in cheaper, or they have better postage rates, or on Amazon they use FBA, or they are just trying to shift none moving stock. Or they aren’t UK based…
